1. Pelosi wanted to kill the bill to undermine McCain
2. McCain and the GOP were going to be blamed anyway - even if the lousy bill had passed
3. I am sure that the McCain people are furious with the House Republicans BUT they have given him a glidepath to victory if he would stop being a statesman and start being a politician.
4. McCain must demagogue this bailout and tie Obama to the Bush proposal.
Will he do it? I doubt it.
No he won’t do it- he has NEVER learned that ‘reaching across the aisle’ only gets his hand bitten.
What I love about FR is the creative thought expressed by the folks who post here.
Some or much of what you all are positing may be true. However, it is always a good idea to follow the money when trying to sort out what happens in Washington or business.
IMO, the dems had two objectives for the so-called bail out. First, they wanted to use it as an opportunity to undermine the capitalist system. Second, they desperately want it to sheild themselves and their cronies in the lending and financial industries from retribution for their criminal and malfeasance behavior.
I think Pelosi and crowd were in a frenzy to cram this bill down our throats quickly before people got onto the game. But, the idiot screwed the pooch when she called pubbies—including the ones who were committed to vote for the bill—johnnie come latelies and unpatriotic. Pelosi’s combination of dumbness and nastiness did her and her bill in.
There is nothing in that bill that punishes the people who created this brave new world. Oh, yea, Bawny Fwanks, was gonna hold hearings sometime to figure out what went wrong. That’s odd, how can we be having a bail out bill if we don’t know what went wrong?
That aside, with dem bail out bill and an Obama presidency, the so-called “investigation” would drag on and on until no one was interested anymore. Upshot: The perpetrators would, in effect, be awarded get out of jail free cards.
