Bill Maher questions religion, God in 'Religulous'
Newsday ^ | Sept. 28, 2008 | John Anderson

Just because you believe in God, says Bill Maher, doesn't mean you're mentally challenged. Not necessarily.

"I always prefer to call it a neurological disorder," quipped the host of HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher" - the usual mischievous smile revealing his joy at being a full-time provocateur. "You can be a very intelligent person, but you wall off a certain part of your mind. It's not as simple as saying if you believe in religion you're an idiot."

There are some idiots in "Religulous," the outrageous docu-comedy opening Wednesday starring Maher and directed by "Borat's" Larry Charles, and much that's funny, insightful and thought-provoking. But it certainly doesn't give the religious a lot of slack. Traveling everywhere from Jerusalem's Temple Mount, to the Vatican, to a trucker's chapel along a North Carolina highway, Maher asks questions. Questions that put people on the defensive. Questions that people can't answer.

...William Donohue, head of the Catholic League and a regular antagonist of Maher's (and vice versa) said his organization's Web site has added a special section on "Religulous" and a compilation of what he called Maher's anti-Catholic comments dating back several years.

"I look at him and think of Mel Brooks," Donohue said, "which is to say Mel Brooks has made fun of religion, but it wasn't vicious. Maher is vicious."

Maher is indeed vicious, hateful, and .... well, a typical America-bashing, religion-fearing leftist.

Maybe or perhaps he is just publicly manifesting the evidence of original sin.

“You can be a very intelligent person, but you wall off a certain part of your mind.”

This is as good a description of the Bill Maher’s of the world as I have ever seen.

A life of constant troweling. That’s where the anger comes from.

“Maybe or perhaps he is just publicly manifesting the evidence of original sin. “

Meaning he’s the serpent?

If only he were that pure!!

The loathsome creature stated this morning on my local TV news, “I made this movie to tell the Sarah Palins that we are taking back this country.”

We, meaning the devil’s minions. I don’t think so, especially on the day honoring St. Michael Archangel.

Mel Brooks was also funny. There is no comparison.

I rarely say this of anyone, but he is ugly, inside and out.

I am majoring in science and plan to at the very least get my Masters, if not a PhD. I know many many scientists are smug, arrogant, atheists who think they are better than everyone else. I was planning on a political science or business major but didn't want to deal with the far left directly. But it seems now that every academic discipline involves bashing Republicanism and Christianity.

If Bill Maher was really brave (as he claims the 9/11 hijackers were) he would go to Riyadh and bash Muhammad in the city square.

And why do we care? His inputs on religion are just about as meaningful as Pelosi’s inputs on anything whatsoever.

Maher doesn't believe that God exists.

He also doesn't believe that germs exist. He thinks that the alleged existence of germs is a big medical conspiracy.

I'm not kidding.

When Mel Brooks and the Monty Python Troupe mocked religion, they mocked tho people who take it too extremes, or live their life by rituals. Bill Maher OTOH is just plain mean.

You have to wonder what Ann Coulter saw in him.

In order to understand original sin, one must understand original justice. Original justice addressed the natural order of things, that is, the subjugation of man’s will to that of God’s. The refusal to acknowledge One greater than oneself or the desire to be as great as that One is original sin. Maher’s inability to refrain from the “eating of the fruit of the tree” and needing to be as “smart” as God shows his willful refusal to subjugate his will to that of God’s and is his public display of original sin.

I saw a trailer for this on SNL.

Two thoughts came to mind:

1) Disgusting
2) Box office loser

I don’t fear for Jesus or His church.

“...upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.”

Bill Maher simply lacks the power to do what he thinks he wants to do.

As usual the article leaves out all the facts as well as the context of Maher’s statements. What he said that caused outrage, when saying the 9/11 terrorists were not cowards was the last part of his statement that, refering to the U.S. “(paraphrasing) shooting cruise missiles at other countries, now that’s cowardly.”

God. Germs. I haven’t seen either one, so obviously they don’t exist. ;)

Original sin, arrogance, pride, the desire to know what God knows, is for more passive than the Mahers of the world.

They are the serpents who do the tempting, the cajoling, the misleading, in order to pit others against God.

And those of us who recognize the original divide between God and man make an effort not to give in to that still-present weakness.

The Mahers of the world thrive on giving the finger to God and antagonizing those of use who do not.

But hey, he's famous and has lots of money. Hope he enjoys it when the worms are eating his sorry flesh.

Yep Bill , you got that right. Now why don’t you un-wall your brain and take a look at your own narrow view of things.

We care because he typifies how dangerous the Left is. Yes, hopefully, this movie will tank but there are people he represents dead set on removing religion ... and perhaps religious people...from American life. The Christian martyrs do not belong only to history.
