-snip-
With respect to his campaign, McCain needs to liberate his running mate from the former Bush aides brought in to handle her aides who seem to have succeeded in importing to the Palin campaign the trademark defensive crouch of the Bush White House. McCain picked Sarah Palin in part because shes a talented politician and communicator. He needs to free her to use her political talents and to communicate in her own voice.
Im told McCain recently expressed unhappiness with his staffs handling of Palin. On Sunday he dispatched his top aides Steve Schmidt and Rick Davis to join Palin in Philadelphia. Theyre supposed to liberate Palin to go on the offensive as a combative conservative in the vice-presidential debate on Thursday.
That debate is important. McCain took a risk in choosing Palin. If she does poorly, it will reflect badly on his judgment. If she does well, it will be a shot in the arm for his campaign.
In the debate, Palin has to dispatch quickly any queries about herself, and confidently assert that of course shes qualified to be vice president. She should spend her time making the case for McCain and, more important, the case against Obama. As one shrewd McCain supporter told me, Every minute she spends not telling the American people something that makes them less well disposed to Obama is a minute wasted.

Exactly !
I’m stealing that!
she believes that the WOT is important and even while her own son is over in Iraq, she supports the war and is hoping for its end within a couple of years...
we need to drill.....she knows all this...
would talk to any foreign leader with conditions..
believes the bailout was a necessary evil....due to failed regulatory involvement of the govt and fully supports what McCain tried to do 3 yrs ago to avert it....
if we can find our own home energy resources....oil, natural gas, coal, wind, solar etc, and could save $700 billion from leaving the country every year, not only would it make a million jobs, it would eliminate the budget deficit and take great bites out of the bailout ....
and so on...
Pardon me Doc, but Jefferson was a Democrat and banged his slave help, there should be no intention by any serious minded person to retreat to such vapid Whitaker Chambers intellectualism.
No thanks, the Reagan/Gingrich model is far more in tune with America.
I think he's trying too hard to win this thing. He shouldn't have picked Palin and he shouldn't have suspended and unsuspended his campaign like that. Smells of try-anything desperation.
LOL! And I’m stealing that one, too!
All in good time, unspun. All in good time.
Let her rip!
The MSM has all but embargoed coverage of Palin in favorable situations. She appeared at three major campaign events last week that drew close to 100,000 people in total yet none of it was reported. The press is cherry picking only those time where they can control the coverage, e.g. edited interviews with Gibson and Couric.
I agree with your post and hope that they are not overprepping her .
I must reiterate though : With the suspension of the campaign better come the largest and most aggressive campaign offensive of modern times or the suspension will prove to be one of the biggest campaign blunders of all time .
Sorry but she has been heard from FAR FAR FAR more than any VP candidate in my 40 years of following elections. Ultimately Palin can not carry McCain. McCain is on the top of the ticket and he must win it against Obama.
Where is the rally, tomorrow??
I don't know when it will come, but McCain will hang them like hogs in a slaughterhouse.
We have more to worry about than what the Huckster is spewing . This is quite a difficult issue to navigate , but I must say that a great big “ no bailout “ position is becoming the common sense idea of the day .
A DUI cover-up story about W. could wait until five days befoe the election. This has to happen strongly with enough time keep shouting the facts and truth over the Obamedia's defenses and their counterattacks against McCain/Palin.
“The Bush presidency started going down the toilet right around the time Ari Fleischer was replaced with that backstabbing fool Scott McClellan”
BINGO!
So check it out - Ari was press secretary from January 20, 2001 July 15, 2003
http://www.hist.umn.edu/~ruggles/Approval.htm
within a year or Ari’s leaving, Bush was down roughly 10%. Within 2 years of Ari’s leaving, Bush was down 20% from when Ari left. That was all under that clown Scott, who was there from July 17, 2003 April 26, 2006
Any October surprise is going to come from Clinton's Op Research team. Clinton's appearance on MTP today was vintage Bubba.
