ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Former Gov. Pete Wilson urged his fellow Republicans on Saturday not to make light of a recall drive against Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
He told delegates at the California Republican Party's fall convention that they should take the threat from the state prison guards union seriously, even if it isn't likely to succeed.
"I hope that I don't have to tell you what an ill-considered idea that is. We did it once; we did not do it lightly," he said, referring to the 2003 recall of former Gov. Gray Davis, a Democrat, an election that sent Schwarzenegger to Sacramento. "It is something that should not be taken lightly. It is an extreme measure."
A conservative wing of the state GOP was scheduled to vote later Saturday on whether to endorse the recall campaign.
In his lunchtime speech to about 250 delegates, Wilson did not directly address the rift between the politically moderate Schwarzenegger and others in his party. Schwarzenegger also avoided the topic during brief remarks to about 300 party members and supporters Friday night.

There’s Pete and then there is Re-Pete.
Never again.
“Who cares?”
Those of us who live, work and pay taxes in CA “care!”
And if you don’t “care” which is understandable since you are in PA; then why the hell are you on this thread....
You out-of-state clowns who come on CA threads and contribute nothing but lame comments need to MYOB!
geeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....
Not only California has felt the sting of continued spending like drunken sailors.. The Feds have been piling up debt as well.
The moderate element that still permeates the GoP and FR will guarantee that future hopes for true reform and change are extinguished as soon as they pop their heads up, all the while claiming they are taking the prudent course of actions, e.g.; The GUb that couldn’t shoot straight who talks out both sides of his mouth at the same time as he governs from the middle.
We are victims of our own political system with a media hell-bent on lying to the people about what would best serve them and not serving up slop for elected officials and their backers and sycophants from the public feeding trough..
Is there a way out?
Not an easy one as the herd needs culling from the top down.
Would recalling the gUb help or hurt? Probably not, imo.
Really? I don't know anyone who wants to wear the Arnold kneepads.
My apologies. I didn’t know that “California threads” were restricted to people who live in California.
Have yourself a blast with your “California threads”.
Arnold ain’t gonna be recalled.
It’s a non-starter.
I does make the Democrats and their union thugs look petty and vindictive, though.
Hey, maybe Nancy will impeach President Bush with a month left to go while they’re at it...

Deal and take those electoral votes with ya.
Why would any California Republican lift a finger for the liberal Democrat Gov. Arnold SchwarKennedy?
Those of us who live, work and pay taxes in CA care!

And just what the hell does that have to do with recalling RINOld?
Until we start replacing the Liberals in BOTH parties,
I can guarrandamteeyou that our state & our country will not improve and will continue to decline!
And recalling RINOld would certainly be a good start to let the CA and national GOP that “RINO’s Need Not Apply!”
Your reputation didn't end up in a sling because you don't reside in California.
