I have not met a single Obama supporter here. Even the government people I know who tend to be Democrat say they're either not voting the top of the ticket or they're voting McCain this year

It's very heavily McCain where I live too...but at work, it's almost all Obama, at least openly.

Could be the Bradley/Wilder effect. Nobody openly admits to watching porn, abusing drugs, drinking to excess or abusing their spouse yet these things are all more prevalent in our society than they should be.

My point is not to equate supporting Obama with any of the above vices but to highlight the fact that people will mostly admit to what they think is a more acceptable behavior. This type of group-think is what makes the polls or conventional wisdom differ from reality. In the privacy of the voting booth people will express their preference absent a perceived stigma from bucking the trend.
