Back in the late 80s, a young couple with two children lost their home because the husband got sick and was unable to work.

I think that the bailout money should only be used to shore up the mortgages for people who couldn't pay their mortgage due to job loss or major illness.

All the other maggots should fry especially the flippers.

Additionally, I think Barney Frank and Chris Dodd should retire effective immediately. They are obviously unfit to serve the taxpayers.

retire

You are too kind.

But, alas, Congress has made their acceptance of bribes legal.

Sucks to be a rube.

But people who believe in abortion up to the third trimester aren't going to go for that. It's the same kind of reasoning when you think about it. No exceptions! Bailouts of mistakes for all! Wipe it away so it looks like we weren't responsible for "the problem" whatever it may be.

“I think that the bailout money should only be used to shore up the mortgages for people who couldn’t pay their mortgage due to job loss or major illness.”

I might add those who are innocent victims of divorce. My wife was unfaithful, then filed for divorce. Thanks to “no-fault” divorce, I may still very well lose my house. Too strong of a bias towards mothers to even care if the woman was the one most responsible for the failed marriage. I guess I’ll know a month from today when we go to court.

Unfortunately, those are the dominant reasons for defaults.

No bail-outs for ANY reason!

If you don't pay, you lose your house. Nobody forced you to sign a mortgage. Nobody guarantees you the right to own a home for which you cannot pay!

The free market gives lenders and borrowers the freedom to choose. It also brings teeth to bite you. If you take the teeth away, it's not a free market.

Nobody should get a mortgage bail-out for any reason because the government becomes the arbiter of sob stories. Your neighbor keeps his house and you don't because he had a bigger sob story than you do.

Oh what a wonderful thing to go crawling to a bureaucrat with tears running down your face, begging to keep your house.

BULL!
