“We weren’t allowed to take our own signs into the Palin/McCain rally in Fairfax Virginia.”

For what it’s worth, the McCain rally in Jacksonville. Florida had a whole bunch of homemade signs. I couldn’t put a number on them, but believe me, there were a LOT! And having looked at all the rally pictures posted on FR, I would have to say that in general, they DO allow them. Maybe it is a Virginia thing?

Maybe it's a Northern Virginia thing ~ with Secret Service keeping an eye on history. Remember when George Wallace was shot down in a nearby DC suburb, or when Ronald Reagan was shot down in DC, or....... etc.

Bill Clinton held a rally in a highschool right here in my neighborhood several years back. They didn't invite any Virginia politicians from this area, and bused in all the public attendees from Baltimore, over 70 miles away.

There were no local signs allowed.

I think it has to do with Secret Service and whatever is consider the INSIDE.
