Of course everyone is giving it to Obama. That was preordained. One must hope that the American people somehow can still discern the difference between a charlatan and the genuine article.

One must hope that the American people somehow can still discern the difference between a charlatan and the genuine article.

Even Fred Barnes fell for the magic One this time, though I think the basic response is "Well, he spoke clearly. That's pretty good for a parrot, you know." Expectations were low and Butler sent out missives this afternoon to suppress them even further (per Hannity). So, with a bar low enough that Yertle the Turtle could have looked impressive, Obama failed to fail.

Color me underwhelmed.

The question will have to be: are people looking for emotional solace in their leader, or are they looking for a leader? McCain certainly knows where he needs to go, what he needs to do when he gets there and where to go then. Obama knows how to feel the pain. If people are in a Clintonic mood, Obama wins even if he starts drooling and making mud paintings. If the fury can be educated, then the real villains will be exposed and McCain would win.

Of course, I could be falling for the media spin myself on this and overstating what actual humans think when exposed to an actual leader when paired with an actual follower. I know which way I'm going with this and I don't need a follower to follow around.
