The University of Mary Washington is scheduled to hold a rally with both Obama and Joe Biden at their historic Fredericksburg, Virginia campus on Saturday, September 27, at 5:15 PM.

The university's bookstore is selling 1,000 Obama / Biden t-shirts at their bookstore starting today (Friday). T-shirts have the university's logo on the front and has the words " Obama was there, Biden was there, I was there, UMW 08 " on the back. Cost: $9.99. Profits from the t-shirts go to the university's bookstore. The idea for the campaign slogan t-shirt came from the university's bookstore manager, Kathy Underwood, as quoted in the Fredericksburg Free Lance-Star newspaper.

UMW Young Democrats will be on hand tomorrow to register voters, enlist volunteers, and direct traffic.

UMWs Young Republicans are attending the rally wearing John McCain t-shirts. However, the local newspaper article makes no note of their ability to register or recruit.

Fredericksburg is a small city approximately half way between the nation's capital of Washington D.C. and Virginia's state capital of Richmond, Virginia.

The Assistant Dean of Admissions at the University of Mary Washington is Lawrence Webb, an openly gay member of the Democratic Party of northern Virginia's Falls Church (city) community and the state's first black gay elected official.

I don't have a shirt or a sign, but after seeing the emails at work and at home today about this event, I think that there will be a BIG protest near the campus. I am not sure if the protest is going to go near the Campus on William Street or on Route 1 (Jefferson Davis Highway). Here is the information from the schools website.

The Virginia blogosphere took care of this today. The UMW bookstore is run by the University and, as such, is a state entity prohibited from political activity.

Attorney General (and next Virginia Governor) Bob McDonnell's office issued a cease and desist order.

Can You Say Double Standard?

Great work! Obama’s people contacted Liberty University when he was in Lynchburg, wanting to use their parking lots. Liberty politely declined, saying that as an apolitical entity, they couldn’t be involved with either campaign.

You just know Jerry Falwell was up there chuckling.
