I know 1948 was 60 years ago before TV, but it is amazing what Truman did to win. He had lost congress to the GOP in 1946.

The last two weeks of the campaign, Thomas Dewey was ordered by his advisers to basically hide to avoid any mistakes as internal polling showed he was a solid 10 points ahead of Truman. The Democrats had held the White House since 1932 and were doomed according to Gallup and other pollsters.

Truman told the media the polls were garbage, did a country wide Train tour and crushed Dewey on election day with over 300 electoral votes.

After seeing the bogus exit polling and others in 2004, who is to say the pollsters are any better now?

Interesting scenario indeed. I’ve stopped paying attention to the polls. I know Americans will do the right thing, barring voter fraud.
