June 19, 2008 -- IRobot, best known for their cute Roomba robotic vacuum cleaner, has teamed up with Metal Storm, purveyors of the million-rounds-per-minute electric gun, to create a slick, Terminator-like war robot for the U.S. military.
The as yet unnamed war bot is being marketed for "border patrol" and "crowd control" scenarios, although other military situations are also under consideration.
"We want our soldiers to have the option of controlling a robot that could go ahead and investigate, engage or deter an enemy and not put human soldiers at risk," said a spokesman for Metal Storm who wished to remain anonymous.

HK’s!
What would be cool is if the bots responded based on a human’s movements in sync. So one soldier could be on patrol with a squad of bots ahead of him that all did as he did such as aim and fire at a target.
We’re okay. Metal storm has not used artifical intelligence on the armed robots...yet. On another note, Skynet failed to become self-aware in 1997 but should do so in 2011.
bttt
I have a IRobot Roomba.....
I wonder if can now get a metalstorm option for it? How cool would that be? I could leave it on patrol downstairs while the missus and I sleep upstairs.....
Of course, that would certainly settle the ongoing dispute the dog has with the Roomba.....
That’s a great idea, someone could make that work!
Those things are bad! And that sound if 100 of them were approaching your position would send you screaming.

Interesting choice of words.
*cues Terminator theme*
;-)
Might as well be; it doesn’t take much imagination to conceive of robots like (or more advanced) than these used to control the people.
Americans won't be keeping a tally on robot deaths, so the only way a losing opponent could hope to eke out a win is to bomb the factories making the replacements.
We will all be fair game.
