I think he can go, spend 90 minutes at the debate and get back to DC. This entire debate thing is so dumb. If he didn’t go it would be next week, now that he’s going it will be over in two hours.

Because there are hours and hours of daily preparation involved, especially the week before the debate. It isn’t just a “fly in do the debate and leave” kind of thing if you’re trying to win the presidency in a tight race.

Well, at the time of his Wednesday announcement that he was suspending his campaign and wanted a postponement of the debate, an aide said that he would not show up for the the debate unless there was a deal to address credit crisis.
"McCain will participate in Friday night’s debate if a bill is passed by Friday morning, his adviser Mark Salter said."
