Study says US textbooks misrepresent Jews and Israel

American elementary and high school textbooks contain many "gross misrepresentations" of Judaism, Christianity and Israel, according to a book-length study released this week by the San Francisco-based Institute for Jewish and Community Research.

"It is shocking to discover that history and geography textbooks widely used in America's elementary and secondary classrooms contain some of the very same inaccuracies about Christianity, Judaism and the Middle East as those [used] in Iran," the IJCR said in a summary of the findings of the five-year study.

In examining the 28 most widely-used history, geography and social studies textbooks in America, researchers Dr. Gary Tobin and Dennis Ybarra found some 500 instances of "errors, inaccuracies and even propaganda" on these issues. Tens of millions of schoolchildren in all 50 states use the textbooks, according to Tobin.

Among the "outrageous misrepresentations" the study found was "a denial of the Jewish roots of Jesus," as when the textbook The World relates that "Christianity was started by a young Palestinian named Jesus."

Just the continuing attempt to re-write history.

"The textbooks tend to be critical of Jews and Israel, disrespectful about Christianity, and rather than represent Islam in an objective way, tend to glorify it,"

Wish I could say I'm surprised...

Jesus was and is a Jew. He is not a profit as Islamofishist would have people believe, thus diminishing Jesus Divinity.
Christianity is the heritage of Judisim, we are the branch grafeted into the tree of Juda. At the root of that tree is Abraham, Issac and Jacob.

Mohammed was a deranged, murderous scum bag.

The Jews need to take it in-house.
The liberal Dems write the history books, and as long as they continue to align themselves with them, they can expect more of the same.

The party of the Muslim has spoken.

No it ain’t...its deliberate.

Quit trying to be “nice” about it...these lefties will do anything to denigrate, minimize and confuse the role of western civilization and Judeo-Christianity.

Readers of the excerpt should read the rest of the article. They’ll see some canards that have often been repeated here, too.

I challenge anyone to find a Roman province known as "Palestine."

Jesus was a Jew from the Roman province of Judea (though he was not a Roman citizen, AFAIK).

True. As the liberal mind is at war against God and His authority and moral absolutes, it seeks to attack that which testifies of it. Hence atheistic evolution, -antisemitism, and anti Christ literature, masquerading as information and reporting. Of course, this is not relegated to school textbooks, but is even more seen in the MSM. A while ago i was much enlightened by the AP to know that Holiness Pentecostals were like Hitler’s socialist party. This was done in a “report.” Before that the AP’s “best quote of the week” was one equating the Bible with toilet paper! “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment” (Mat 12:36).

(Isa 59:3) “For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.”

“Therefore also will I make thee sick in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins” (Micah 6:13).

Man, that is sad. I wish I was more surprised, but I’m not, I’m just sad.
