I can’t believe members of Congress are forgiven slander against citizens who are not public figures.
I recall from my scribbling days in the 70s that a city council member claimed “indemnification” from slandering a police officer during debate on the cost of police equipment. It wouldn’t surprise me to discover congresspeople had passed law covering their tracks even when a non-prominent person was involved.
