Sen. Barack Obama Graces BankUnited on the Day it Fired Over Half its Compliance Staff, Gave New Duties to Regional Manager Recently Arrested for Drug Possession and Possibly Planned to Cancel Quarterly Interest Payments to Seniors
BankUnited is Americas most liberal bank. It may also be Americas nastiest. The bank is well known as a proud and repeated sponsor of South Floridas Pride Festival, an event for which they pressure employees to volunteer. So it would seem natural that Barack Obama would choose the BankUnited Center for his grand appearance in South Florida last Friday. But given the flurry of negative press surrounding not only the banks creative mortgage options, but also its hiring practices (including placement of the Chairmans inexperienced daughters in executive positions) and the judgment of its board overall, Obamas failure to distance himself from the institution shows a lack of judgment that becomes astonishing as the details of BankUniteds true nature is laid out.
Simply put, when the New York Times attacks a liberal corporation you know that theres trouble. The same can be said when the New York Times devotes a 1,200 word story to a bank that operates exclusively in South Florida. But then again, BankUnited is no ordinary bank.

Just imagine the reaction to this if it was McCain who was featured in the article1 and it was a “conservative” bank (whatever that would mean).
You’ve got that right. Very good point.
There was a BankUnited that was acquired by Washington Mutual back in 1999 or 2000. Had branches in Houston, TX. Is this the same entity? Got spun off by WaMu. The earlier Bank United had decent service, but went down the tubes once acquired by WaMu.
It’s amazing how corporations that adopt ultra-liberal policies not only become unprofitable, but also become hostile workplace environments. I am not refering to the “hostile workplace environment” where a liberal feels offended when expected to actually show up for work. This is the hostility of a Stalinist political environment. Any corporation that adopts these kinds of policies has misplaced priorities, and deserves to die.
A view of life as it will be under a liberal obama regime.
Hi. Was wondering about that too while researching their history. There’s apparently no connection, which is a good thing. I hope WaMu stays afloat. One thing I forgot to add to the piece is that many banks have very active CRA divisions which helped people buy housing. They caused this temporary mortgage fiasco, but they were well meaning and in the end this may all be a bump on the road to greater homeownership (though with sense). BankUnited just pushed option ARMS and did little good, if any, for the public.
Excellent, excellent video. Have passed it on - we all should
