WASHINGTON -- The U.S. presidential race is a statistical dead heat, with Republican John McCain leading Democrat Barack Obama by two percentage points, according to a poll taken in mid-September.
The Franklin and Marshall College Poll showed McCain was supported by 45 percent of respondents, compared to Obama's 43 percent.
The poll's margin of error was plus or minus 2.7 percent.
The survey was taken before President George W. Bush's request for $700 billion to bail out the financial industry

These folks do a pretty nice job polling in Pa. Not sure how they are on national scale. Polling started last week before crisis, but internals look promising for McCain.

Is this a right-leaning college? I am pleased to see college students trending toward McCain/Palin.

I thought Barack was up by 9? </s>

The survey of 1,320 adults was conducted Sept. 15-21 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percent. McCain may take PA.

We visited F&M when my kid was looking at colleges in 2000 -- the place was covered with Gore-Lieberman stickers. It was probably the worst of any college we visited.
I just mention that I think the place is ultra-lib. The poll might or might not be accurate -- but if it is accurate, it's probably accurate for the wrong reasons.

Hopefully he can. I think it going to be closer here than 00 or 04. Got to find a way to overcome all the dead voters in Philly.

My Dad, a staunch conservative, attended there in the early 1900's....around 1915 would be a guess.
Obviously it's gone left....just like my school, the University of Colorado - now nicknamed "BezerklyEast".

Dead people are quiet most of the time, but they sure get ambulatory when Dems call them to the polls, don’t they ?
Using zombie magic should be against election laws.

You're right. The experience to be President question shows McCain leading the Obamessiah by a staggering 61-24%. Ouch!!
So Rasmussen, Battleground and this poll all show a dead heat, with a slight advantage to McCain. Then we have the ComPost poll showing The One leading by 9 points (snicker), and a Fox poll showing Obama by 6. But what bothers me about that latter poll is that McCain inexplicably plummets to 39%. Doesn't pass the smell test.
I believe I heard Hannity mention another national poll today showing a close race. Did anyone else catch that?

It’s a national poll, not a state poll of PA.

And Gallup shows The One leading 47-44, while the Wall St. Journal/NBC poll shows Obama by two. Both fairly consistent with this and the Battleground poll. Haven't found the one Hannity referenced yet, I don't think.
For all you handwringers out there, Obama has not taken a national lead in this race. It's still close, and I still like McCain's chances over Obama's electorally.

Another poll showing us a very close race, not a laughable Obama lead of 6-9 points. Any of you hear Hannity’s radio show today? He mentioned another close poll, but I was on the phone and didn’t catch the firm or any particulars.

AP came out with a poll of registered voters yesterday showing Obama with only a one point lead. Being an AP poll, I would the ranch that it, too, is overpopulated with Democrats.

Thanks. AP doesn’t sound familiar. But maybe he said McClatchy? I dunno. That’s probably the one he was referring to.

Got to find a way to overcome all the dead voters in Philly.Based on what I'm hearing and seeing in the NE and South Philly they're going to have to vote Laurel Hill and Mount Moriah.

Did I say AP? Bad, spellchecker, bad! I meant the IPSOS/McClatchy poll.

With regard to your comment “I thought Barack was up by 9?” - on Rush today, he said the Washington Post/ABC poll reflected a total of 780 persons - 163 of whom were black, and only 28% of whom were Republicans.
To: kesg
Yep! That’s the one I heard Sean reference. Thanks much.

New poll out last night on CO---McCain down 3.
Starting to think this state is lost. Maybe VA. If we have to rely on PA and NH and MI, I think it's a long election night.
