CLEARWATER, Florida (Reuters) - John McCain and Barack Obama issued a joint statement on Wednesday urging lawmakers to cooperate and reach a U.S. economic bailout agreement to avoid "economic catastrophe".
In a three-paragraph statement issued by McCain, the Republican candidate for president and his Democratic rival Obama, the two said it was time for both parties to come together for the sake of the American people.
"This is a time to rise above politics for the good of the country," it said. "We cannot risk an economic catastrophe. Now is our chance to come together to prove that Washington is once again capable of leading this country."

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
Damn, they are both Socialists.
Let’s see what they propose.
McCain went on a limb to do this, but in the end I think he’s taking the higher ground...
I think Mac had the instinct that something is wrong. He suspends his campaign and asks the other guy to do it too. He says no...Bush basically saves him....and Obama joins...
“This is a time to rise above politics”
It’s completely political, gazillionaires in finance v. the People.
Obama, I understand, he’s in the pocket of Soros and Goldman Sachs.
I can’t see any other solution. If we cut taxes, we’ll still have all this crap clogging up the system.
WHAT aren’t they telling us?
There’s got to be more to the story than we are getting!!
And this is new "news"? < grinning >
