BREAKING NEWS: Obama Accepts Bush Invitation To Meet In Washington
wnbc.com ^ | 9/24/08

With extraordinary stakes on the line, President Bush has invited both presidential candidates and the leaders of the House and Senate to the White House on Thursday in hopes of securing a bill to rescue the economy.

Bush took the unusual step Wednesday night of calling Democratic Sen. Barack Obama directly to invite him to the meeting, White House press secretary Dana Perino said. An Obama spokesman said the senator would attend. The White House has also invited Republican Sen. John McCain.

Perino said the goal of the session is to make progress -- fast -- on a bipartisan solution to the biggest economic crisis in decades.

She said the call between Bush and Obama lasted several minutes and was "a good conversation."

Obama spokesman Bill Burton said the Democratic presidential contender "will continue to work in a bipartisan spirit and do whatever is necessary to come up with a final solution."

The move by Bush came just a short time before he was to address the nation about the financial crisis.

Yea, I think Bush saved Obama on this one. Although the Fox News team thought Bush saved McCain from the limb he had gone out on.

At least Bush is out on front on this. He should have called a prime time news conference last Wednesday.

Maybe the show of non-partisanship on Thursday will be OK in the end. I doubt that Americans really want one party running congress AND the presidency.

McCain will get some good campaign lines and commercials out of this. Obama’s “I’ll show up if they need me” should make it into a commercial.

Regardless, I am very proud of McCain for taking a great political risk to do what is right. I just hope the American people understand that kind of real sacrifice when they vote on Nov 4th.

Because, uh, everyone knows Obama is an expert when it comes to financial crises?

Obama knows absolutely NOTHING about the economy or financial markets.

He brags about spurning a job on Wall Street when he graduated from Harvard Law School in order to become a civil rights lawyer in Chicago (helping slum landlords like Rezko loot public money and fail to deliver the housing), but if he had spent time on Wall Street he might have learned at least something about the economy.

The problem is, Obama, by virtue of his accidental candidacy (I don't think he ever expected when he started out that he would win his party's nomination this time around), is now the nominated Democrat candidate for the presidency of the United States. That means he is the de facto leader of the Democrat party, and the Democrat party is the largest political party in the United States.

Now we face an extremely serious, serious problem in our economy (notwithstanding all of the know-nothing Freepers who are whistling past the graveyard).

This requires immediate, bipartisan action. But here is Obama, completely removed from the action, travelling around the country on his celebrity campaign tour throwing out irresponsible statements to the effect "whatever they do on the bill, no one should have to give up their house."

He is a non-serious poseur, who pretends to be a unifier but has no experience in anything but partisan grievance-hustling for the dysfunctional parasite class, his constituency.

I will be very surprised if the parties, working diligently on a solution, can complete negotiations by Friday, but I will not surprised if Obama tries to shuck off responsibility and tries to pull McCain out to have their debate on Friday night, bill or no bill.

Correct. Now the public will at least view McCain and Obama as equal on the topic. Up to this point McCain has been getting the worse of this mess. Now they are all on par.

I think this was a good move. Helps neutralize the issue for McCain.

lol so true!

I think Bush saw the attack with senators saying “McCain, we don’t need you” and legitimized the McCain decision to put the country first

I think you are right. Barry won’t be able to stay home to “cram” for the debate. He’ll have to get involved and be a part of the decision...Oh,
the humanity!

Wrong, wrong, wrong.

Obama wanted to vote "present" so he could say that "BushMcCain" voted to give Wall Street FatCats 700 Billion dollars of your money.

McCain knew this. So did Bush. They're sandbagging Obama into showing up around the Big Table so he is in on the Takeoff. .....and the Crash Landing.

Obama desperately wants to vote Present. Bush and McCain won't let him!

The price of making Obama accountable is to give him part of the credit. Once he said "call me", McCain had him.

This is just a way to make Barack just another Washington politician. Which he always was.

Best,

Chris

Why is Bush giving this destructive moron any legitimacy?

I agree. O said he didn't need to be there so Bush should have left it at that instead of acting like O has any relevancy.

Yea, I think Bush saved Obama on this one.

Yep, I think the media is salivating and having leg tingles about getting the pics of Obama with as much White House behind him as they can fit into the pic - and serious expressions only. McCain will be diminutive pics with dazed looks.

I agree.

I’m not naive enough to think the MSM won’t spin this.

But finally for once Obama will not get away with doing nothing and then blaming “BushMcCain” as you say it. Obambi really thought he was gonna ride this issue into the November. He may actually have to spend a few weeks talking about crazy dictators chasing away weapons inspectors so they can make bombs and kill us.

Good evening gentlemen. I hope both of you are well.

Seems like I just lost the "Next Page" navigation button on my "Pings" page.

And no, I haven't had too much to drink.

Those blaming Bush, not so fast

It was reported on Fox that McCain is the one that told GWB to call Obama. It was McCain's idea, that tells me he has something up his sleeve. No way does Bush want to screw McCain or the Republicans, there is something we don't know. Don't jump on the RAT bandwagon and start blaming the POTUS.

Yet his sycophants will think he is oh-so-clever for ridiculing a decent man who, while he is in NYC anyway, does a news interview during an economic crisis instead of talking to Dave.

Yup, he’s an elite liberal ass. Good luck with that rescheduling, Dave. I thought you were funny - 25 years ago.
