Government coersion in mortgage lending and renting
TOPICS: Business/Economy; Government; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: fiarhousingtests; govwatch; housingbubble
I am under investigation by HUD for "fair housing discrimination" based on a telephone call by a "tenents council (read "community organizer") located many miles away from my residence inquiring about a small apartment that I rent and advertised upon its vacancy as a "single occupancy apartment" via a classisfed newspaper and website. The caller in question posed as a single mother with one year old child and was told that the apartment was likely too small and bereft of features (which it is) to accommodate her circumstances. Short story is that 3 montls later, I am the receipient of a discrimination complaint (based on "familial status") filed by this organization to be "investigated" by HUD in their behalf and who has a contract with HUD to conduct "fair housing testing." This same sort of duplictious and dishonest "testing" has been used for years to intimidate mortgage lenders, banks, financial institutions, apartment houses and landlords every day in the name of "housing equality" regardless (apparently) of the damage it does to property rights, to say nothing now of our economy. There is something very wrong in this country when political correctness and equality of outcomes has replaced the virtues of hard work and personal responsibility. My expereince in all of this tells me we are reaping in the whirlwind and there is nothing anyone..Obama, McCain or anyone else can do about it. except, perhaps, to make it worse.

"Fair Housing" public service commercials are among the most obnoxiously sanctimonious I've ever heard.
These militant hypocrits have no place in a free society and are in dire need of restraint.

I think there are carve-outs from the regulations for single-unit rentals vs. an apartment complex.
Vaguely recall from my days as a landlord “garage apartment” type things are exempt.
Make yourself as SMALL as possible with you living on site.

Indeed, called Mrs. MWT, there was something called the Mrs. Murphys exemption” or a Mom and Pop exemption.
This exemption states something to the effect that if the dwelling has four or less units -— and, this is what I recalll —— the owner lives in one of the units, it is exempt from the Fair Housing Act.
Not sure if that was Texas only or not.

I am under investigation by HUD for "fair housing discrimination" based on a telephone call by a "tenents council (read "community organizer") These councils are the training grounds for petty little dictator types. They can't do anything other than boss people around. Once they get a little experience, they try to move on to elected offices where they can scale up their vindictiveness.
Good luck on getting out of their cross hairs
