This just makes me think there has got to be something more behind this. Very drastic sudden moves like this are a pretty big deal, especially this close to the election. Anyone have any thoughts whether something else could be going on?

We possible stand at financial crisis as large as the Cuban missile crisis. McCain is showing leadership by putting the country first.

I seriously doubt the left will get the message or step up to the plate.

He drew a line in the sand something are more important than party.

I’m starting to think this is just what a maverick looks like.

Democrats have been the party of big finance since the 1980’s. There are exceptions, John McCain for one. Remember, he was the sole Republican of the Keating 5.

I thought the same thing. Maybe McCain is ill? Then I saw him on FOX. He was fine.

I also saw Obama at 5PM EDT, and these guys are not on the same page.

Obama may just have double crossed McCain. Doesn't make sense McCain would unilaterally pullout of the debate.

McCain is putting his money where his mouth is. It’s a bold step to face a crisis you’d expect from a President. I don’t think it’ll hurt him at all but it might force Obama to either follow or sit on the bench and watch. Either way makes Obama seem incidental as he’ll be hard pressed to push his big expenditure ideas during this financial crisis if he doesn’t follow. The war in Iraq can’t be his issue and now possibly the economy won’t be his issue either unless he follows McCain’s lead.
