I noticed during the "height of the crisis" last week, that the Wall Street Journal kept emphasizing how Paulson and the Fed had "briefed the President for 45 minutes"
They kept repeating it as though they couldn't believe how disengaged he was.
Most Freepers on financial threads could explain crisis better than Bush can. Maybe he should Freep mail someone to stand for him.
“... then there is a FRAUD going on.”
Right, and that’s a crime.
* They should be prosecuted.
* They shouldn’t get one cent of tax revenue.
* The gubment still has no business dictating compensation packages in the private sector.
* Stockholders unhappy with their investment targets are free to sell and bug off.
No the reason for the current meltdown is because the Democrats blocked the legislation that would have prevented this.
George Bush
More and more, I'm seeing a picture of Baghdad Bob every time President Bush speaks.
Good News! Where’d you hear about it? I’m desk bound, is there a news link?
“other countries”
I saw on Lou Dobbs a couple nights ago that the bail-out plan includes the Deutsche bank, although the Germans flatly rejected any participation. They know a ginned-up crisis when they see one. And if anyone knows anything about screwing, and getting screwed, it’s the Germans.
Wall Street and this administration are trying to job us, just like `immigration reform’.
No one believes this. You would have to accept that their was no authority in the SEC or Treasury Dept. or, basically, in the entire Executive branch. There might not have been much intelligence or integrity there, but there was plenty of power that could have been used to expose this scam and prevent it from growing into the huge problem we now have.
Socialists don’t cut taxes.
Yes, some people are. I’m not one of them, as I’m sure you were implying.
I'm just saying if the world economy is so dependent on franny and freddie and that is why this buyout is being pushed, then the "world" needs to cough up some cash. Guess I was being sarcastic.
I wonder if he’ll mention the fact that his socialist bailout eliminates any chances of the ‘01 tax cuts becoming permanent.
Bush is going to back the bailout. Who else is going to hire him in January? Unlike the Clintons, I don’t think President Bush has feathered his nest for retirement.
Any speech from Bush that doesn’t explain how we got into this mess will do more harm than good.
Thanks, I’m going to go look at it. BRB
Bush is going to buy back the Texas Rangers baseball team once he’s out of office.
Bush who I voted for twice is Nationalizing the cornerstone of a free market economy.
That is socialist.
I’m not getting the impression that there will be no bail out.
