Gallup Daily: Obama Maintains 3-Point Edge; No change from Tuesday’s report

PRINCETON, NJ -- Barack Obama is maintaining a three-point, 47% to 44%, edge over John McCain among registered voters in the latest Gallup Poll Daily tracking update for Sept. 21-23, unchanged from Tuesday's report.

Obama had moved to as much as a six percentage point lead over McCain last week in the midst of the intensive news coverage of the Wall Street financial crisis, but the race has, in the last several days, settled back to the same type of slight edge for Obama that typified the race for most of the summer prior to the political conventions. Meanwhile, separate Gallup tracking data show that Americans continue to be very negative on the U.S. economy, including the highest percent rating the economy as "poor" (53%) so far this year.

Obama needs to be beat down so bad during this election that nobody of his low caliber will ever try and run again. The people of this country need to say no to socialism and communism once more and do it in no uncertain terms. There are those that didn’t like the McCarthy era but if you look at it, it set communism back over 60 years in this country.

Fox News has their new poll out. I think it is now 45 to 39 for Obama. They say this is the 1st time in their poll that it is out of the margin or error. then they say their is a huge swing in Independents to obama from theier last poll. On the economy it’s 47 to 37 Obama. Keeping us safe is 45 to 40 McCain.

I guess this $hit is just reactionary to WallStreet. Good thing Gallup didn’t move up!

A really good Obama day (last Sunday) drops off tomorrow’s Gallup tracking poll. Actually, I suspect that it was more of a bad McCain day than a good Obama day, that is, a one day shift of voters going from McCain to undecided, but not shifting to Obama.

By my reckoning, the Gallup tracking poll has been essentially tied among registered voters over the last two days. This means that McCain is beginning to take the lead again among likely voters (the Gallup spread is approximately 4 points between registered voters and likely voters).

This race is essentially tied in the popular. But McCain enjoys some historic advantages in the electoral. CO and VA almost always go red. OH and MO are bellwethers for GOP nominees and they are trending red too. DO NOT gauge success by popular vote polls of RVs at this point. Look at the battleground states.
