The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Wednesday shows Barack Obama attracting 49% of the vote while John McCain earns 47%. It’s the first time in more than two weeks that Obama has enjoyed a lead larger than a single percentage point (see trends). Both men are now viewed favorably by 55% and Rasmussen Markets data currently gives Obama a 52.1 % chance of victory (see market results for key states).
Forty-one percent (41%) say they are certain to vote for Obama and will not change their mind. Forty percent (40%) say the same about McCain. The remaining 19% are the candidates’ target audience for Friday night’s debate. Results are released every day at 9:30 a.m. Eastern and a FREE daily e-mail update is available. As consumer and investor confidence keeps tumbling, 47% of voters now say the economy is the top voting issue for Election 2008. National security is a distant second at 19%. Seventy-six percent (76%) now say the economy is getting worse and just 25% of voters currently support the financial rescue plan proposed by Treasury Secretary Paulson.

Why all the long faces here? Geez, do you people not remember the double digit lead Democrats had at this time in the most of the last elections in the past generation?
Yeah, we all want to see our guy on top of the polls, but this is anything but bad news. Look at the favorables, good news for McCain.

Every election these people come out of the woodwork and contribute NOTHING to winning other than whining, wishy-washy, drama queen comments.
I seriously wish the management would just delete any thread with a poll number in the title.
It’s typical and I am merely surprised that they didn’t build in the “Bradley” effect as I saw earlier today with another poll.
I am not counting on the Bradley or Wilder effect being reliable but apparently the media is scared which makes me feel better.
The Lamestream media must be having a really hard time skewing the polls for O'Bomber if he's not up by double digits right now.............
McCain is going to have to win the debates and win them decisively if he is to win in November. It will be the only time he can go over the heads of the partisan media and speak directly to the American people about the true Obama. If he blows it there, he’s done. One thing is for sure, he better be prepared. I saw McCain at a rally a couple days ago reading word for word from a note card. He better start speaking with some passion against the media and Obama or its over.
I do think though that with things this close, the debates are going to be crucial. I am not one to think that "So and So" is going to necessarily destroy "moron" in the debate. We'll have to see what happens, I can easily see the debates going either way.

I don't and neither does RealClear Politics in 2004, although in all fairness those were LV polls, something we don't seem to get in this election cycle.
I live in Northern California. Why waste my time? There is no way in hell Obama (or any other RAT) is losing this state.
The fact that Obama is not like 10 to 15 points ahead with all this financial doom means Obama is not getting as much headway as people think.
Besides with the north Koreans reopening their nuclear facilities today and pakistan verging on chaos means international foreign policy will show up and we all know thats bambi’s weak card.
