This Washington Post-ABC News poll was conducted by telephone September 19-22, 2008, among a random national sample of 1,082 adults, 916 registered voters and 780 likely voters. The survey includes additional interviews with randomly selected African Americans, for a total of 163 black respondents. The added interviews (commonly referred to as an "oversample") were completed to ensure there were enough African American respondents for separate analysis; the group was not over-represented in the reported results from the full sample. The results from the full survey have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus three percentage points. Error margins are higher for subgroups. Sampling, data collection and tabulation by TNS of Horsham, Pa.

Sure ABC - just look at the internals - a ten point wide gap in voter registration advantage and there's that 11 point swing in two weeks in voter sentiment. How real are those? Unbelievable. Once I saw them, I knew this poll is mean to be thrown in the wastebasket!

How can you call it a random sample when you pre-select a subgroup by race?

Well of course, when he loses they can say racism led to his defeat. Its becoming a tiresome cliche.

This is how they always do their polls; the shift is real and it’s big. The finanical disaster has been a firebomb thrown into the McCain camp. There’s no point denying it; the issue now is finding a way for McCain-Palin to recover. Other than the WSJ, the MSM absolutely, positively will not report that this is the fault of the Dems—they will consistently tell the American public that this is the fault of deregulation (i.e., code for Republicans) and unless something is done fast, the election is OVER and Obama will take office in January.

Obama is going to win in a landslide if this isn’t turned around fast. We cannot depend upon Obama and Biden to gaffe themselves out of the election. We are facing a crisis 100x more serious than 9/11 (though there are still some who fail to understand the scope of what’s happened in the past two weeks). The public is largely ignorant and Obama is taking advantage of their ignorance. The MSM now has all guns turned against the Republicans; truth has been eliminated from the news. The takeover has begun.

Every asset you own will be affected and redirected towards Obama’s chosen demographic groups. We’re about to witness the largest redistribution of wealth in world history. McCain-Palin better respond to this crisis and respond well or not only the election, but the Republic itself will be lost.

Let’s wait for Rasmussen, this polls strikes me as phony. This is a life raft to increase enthusiasm and money going into the Obama campaign. This is a fight and the GOP had better start hitting the Dems even harder on connections to Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, and keep pointing out the party line vote that stopped reform in 2005. It is time to take off the gloves with liberals and Obama.

I don’t believe this polls but I’d rather we always play the game like we are down 10 points than by thinking we are up 10 when we aren’t. It is time to take the gloves off. People on the street are upset about this Bailout. They don’t want it. McCain needs to come out against it.

McCain/Palin is doing all they can. Once the debates start the numbers will come our way. For now, we just keep disclosing the dirty tricks and polling, fight like hell, and work hard to get our candidates in. Todays polling should definitely be leaning our way.....

Look at the internals. If this is real and big... they wouldn't have to fake party ID weighing just to help the One. And look where the candidates are campaigning. It would be obvious he's winning. If they have to fake a non-existent lead for him going into the debates, they have no confidence in their candidate. This is a sign of MSM desperation, not strength.

The practice of over-representing minorities or certain age groups are common in survey research when the researchers want to know the dynamic inside those groups. I’m not sure the advantage of doing that in a snap-shot poll like this. Did they use those over-represented sample in calculating the ‘internal’?

Every single poll taken by every single group is weighted similarly. There is nothing unusual in the sampling. They all do it. I guarantee that Rasmussen, Gallup and Zogby will show similar shifts.

Limbaugh always mentions this as part of MSM playbook. Release bogus poll results to discourage and disorient the Republicans. It has been done before. It will be done again.

You are wrong. Ras and Gallup already released their polling over the weekend. They do not show such a huge shift.

Ras and Gallup do not use a 10% disparity in party ID as ABC/Washington Post does. And an Ipsos poll released this morning still shows the race essentially tied.
