An act sponsored by 25 representatives asking the government to reconsider its ban on incandescent light bulbs has been stalled in committee – and the leading sponsor is faulting Democratic leadership.
The Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act highlights growing concerns over the safety and environmental impact of compact fluorescent bulbs, or CFLs. Before the sale of incandescent bulbs is banned, the representatives are asking the comptroller general to prove replacement with CFLs will be cost-effective, reduce overall carbon dioxide emissions by 20 percent in the United States by 2025 and that the bulbs will not pose a health risk to the general public.
However, the act has been delayed in the Subcommittee on Energy and Air Quality since March 14 – more than six months. U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., leading sponsor of the legislation, told WND Democrats are not concerned about pushing the act through.
"The Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act, H.R. 5616, is currently collecting dust in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, held up by Democrat leadership that refuses to make this legislation a priority," Bachmann said. "The Democrat leadership fills the congressional schedule with naming post offices and ends the work week early rather than do the people's business."
She continued, "They don't want to take up the real issues that make a difference in people's lives because those issues require them to make tough choices."

I have talked with Michelle Bachmann in person and have heard her on talk shows about this.
Whoever supports mandating us to go to CFL’s has their head up their butt. It must be stopped !!

DUH!! Our previous regulations regarding compact flourescent lights may possibly have been premature.
We will empanel a “Blue Ribbon Commission” to study the possibility of Prematurity, and whether the empanelling of this commission may have also been premature.
And, if found NOT to be premature on both counts, a new Commission will be empanelled to then study the efficacy, of said CFL’s.
The safety of such CFL’s will be studied by another panel at a later date ( now set for April 1st, 2718)

I would have thought, though, that since they are sooooo concerned about safety and the environment, they would have demanded a decent lightbulb that doesn't create a hazmat disaster when you break one. The disposal aspect is another concern.

You mean they’re done with the steroids in Major League Baseball issue? Glad these buffoons are tackling the tough issues that affect us.
Note the tree huggers counter with the malarkey that by reducing electricity use we reduce coal burning power plants which emit mercury in minute quantities. I would argue that having all of the light bulbs in your home replaced with CFLs would put more mercury in your home than if you lived in a plume of emmissions from a power plant. Note moving to nuclear power and keeping incandescent bulbs eliminates the mercury problem.
I bought up many boxes of regular light bulbs in 60 and 100 watt from Costco some months back. Guess what, you can’t buy regular light bulbs at Costco anymore!
Hopefully I will have enough until they see the error of their ways on this issue. I use the CFL’s on my Porch lights that are on all night and that is it. The CFL’s will not fit many fixtures that we have in our homes.
