This is news to me! If what you say is true, then why is Colin Powell referred to as "African-American"? As I recall from reading his autobiography some years ago, his family all emigrated from the West Indies (Jamaica?) within the last generation or two. Hardly a slave descendant!

So I ask just why did all those blacks end up in Jamaica? They sure didn’t go there for the nice beaches. If his family came from the West Indies then yes they were more than likely decedents of former slaves.
There was a thread earlier were there was a discussion of Obama’s ancestry. If the man Obama tabbed is his father, then Obama is not black.
Obama’s father has a black great-grandparent but the rest of his ancestry is Arabic. He is descended from slave traders.
In Obama’s case, he has no black great-grandparents, so in US law, he’s not black. He’s half-white and almost half-Arabic.
He’s an Arab-American.
