These dogs are notorious for something in them just ‘snapping’. There is some kind of trigger incident and they just loose it.
I have heard from pit bull owners here and they say there is a big hormonal component to it. A fixed pit bull is much less aggressive towards other dogs, and less likely to ‘snap’. The problem is such a singular incident cannot be predicted, or what will cause it. Once you know it’s already too late.
My black lab is obedience trained, can do all the tricks, worships the ground I walk on, and goes belly up on her back showing subservience to me with a stern look.
That said she gets mean with little kids in the house. My niece (unknowingly) almost got nipped when she stuck her hands in my dog’s food bowl. I had the muzzle and pinch collar on my dog in a heartbeat and nobody knew what had almost happened. I knew the signs to look for and took the appropriate action needed.
The owner is responsible for the behavior. I’ve been around 3 pit bulls and the biggest rottweiler I’ve ever seen, they’re all the biggest teddy bears you can imagine. One pit bull Sammy I knew for all of 5 minutes and he spent the night cuddling with me in the guest room I stayed in. Good thing too because it was freezing that night.
The difference is training and socialization. It doesn’t matter what breed you have.
Most never read the articles,,,
Name call those of us who don't want to get et by their
“Pets”...
Your lyrics are better. ;-) Most of the pit bull owners in my neck of the woods are pagans with Obama bumper stickers.
I thought they were the Dogs of Peace...?
“I’m no liberal, don’t even try that game pal.”
You want to ban something others like... pretty liberal.... very liberal... hell, it is liberal.

2008 US Dog Bite Fatalities Interim Report: January 1 - September 13
From time-to-time, DogsBite.org is requested by a municipality to create an interim year fatality report, such as this. What stands out thus far is the high percentage of pit bull killings (61%), that only one person over the age of 2 was killed by a breed other than a pit bull and that 100% of off-property attacks have been attributed to pit bulls. The high rate of infant fatalities (1-years old and younger) across a variety of breeds stands out as well.
18 US fatal dog attacks have occurred so far in 2008. Pit bull type dogs were responsible for 61% (11). Pit bulls make up approximately 2-9% of the US dog population.
Only one person over the age of 2 has been killed by a breed other than a pit bull this year; a 74-year old woman was fatally mauled by her two dogs (Australian shepherd-mix and a golden retriever-mix).
67% of the attacks occurred to children (11 years and under). Half of these incidents occurred to ages 1 and younger. 33% of all fatalities occurred to adults (21 years and older).
39% of fatal attacks in involved multiple dogs; 11% involved chained dogs.
72% of the attacks occurred on owner property and 28% off owner property. Of the off-property attacks, 100% (5) were attributed to pit bulls.
39% of the victims were female; 61% of the victims were male. Of the male victims, nearly half (8) were 11 years and younger.
The states of Texas, Alaska and New York each suffered two fatalities.

Fine “PETS!”...
were the kids killed by cheap labor or the prostitutes or the gambling...?
b/c I can definitely see a danger of poker chips flying across the room and crushing someones little toe.
Absolutely not a breed that should be around any young child period.
You are rignt... damn good pets.
Its time to get rid of this breed once and for all. But soon the pitbull defenders will be on this thread claiming these dogs are just sweet lovable babies and that poodles actually bite more people than pits.
I used to have one that was a hundred and forty pound lap dog. Oof!
There are a lot of retarded “full blooded” breeds.... none need to be extinguished. The inbreeders need to be disbanded.
Fishhooks are cheaper.
You misspelled ‘pest’.
People defending children who get ripped to shreds over and over and over again by a particular breed of dogs isn’t liberalism. Its just plain common sense.
Harley to the rescue!
They shouldn't be banned either.
I road a stupid horse once or twice. Named Wildfire... Wildflower... or Retarded-horse.... whatever the case- the horse was a bastard... aparantley there are a lot of retarded horses.
I crossed the path of a few bull red faces... they looked as though they would charge and got mighty pissed when I approached their cows... Ban grazing?
