The American people don’t know history, are as easily led as a group of swine, and addicted to the public dole. The good people get fewer and fewer the parasites increase each election, and they haven’t even legalized our thirty million new Democrats yet.

We were recently discussing how both political parties are fighting over who can push America into a terminal spending spiral the fastest, in their endless quest to buy votes. (In addition to the cultural fragmentation along the Obama / Palin lines)

The problem is that votes are for sale in the first place, and that democracies only last until the people figure out they can vote themselves money. The eye widening problem is that this is now the position of both parties, and of the electorates of both parties. The spend-and-socialize mentality has been embraced because election-winning majorieties of Americans want to be bought off.

A very apolitical work associate of mine listening to our converstation quipped that the only thing elections stand for now is what flavor of dicatorship we'll get when everything falls apart.

This caused us some pause, and it made me look up a quote which we all know, but seems more relevant than ever:

"A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury.

"From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising them the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through this sequence:

"From bondage to spiritual faith;
from spiritual faith to great courage;
from courage to liberty;
from liberty to abundance;
from abundance to selfishness;
from selfishness to apathy;
from apathy to dependence;
from dependency back again into bondage."

Dr. Alexander Tytler, "The Athenian Republic"

“I had been a bit surprised by Bill Clinton predictions that Obama to win because of the economy. When I saw him do it a second time yesterday, it finally dawned on me what he was doing. He is predicting Obama will win or more importantly should win due to the economy. So that if Obama loses, it is Obama blew it even with the wind at his back.”

..... I am convinced more than ever that, on the Democratic side, this election cycle has really been an effort by the the extreme left to destroy the influence of the Clintons within the party. Obama is simply the hapless pliant frontman for the interests behind the curtain.

I don’t believe that this fact has escaped the notice of Bill and Hillary. Neither of the Clintons is really lifting much more than a nominal pinkie finger to campaign for Obama OR attack McCain/Palin. They will essentially remain aloof from the campaign, doing the least possible campaigning to assure that they do not antagonize their own democratic party base. The real knives wielded against Obama will be in the hands of prominent Hillary supporters who publicly announce that they are supporting McCain/Palin. We are suddenly seeing a succession of Hillary democrats making very public “Zell Miller” announcements in the midst of a presidential campaign season. Such a step is normally political suicide. The fact that we are seeing so many doing so over such a short span of time smacks of premeditation and plan to me. Expect a steady parade of prominent Hillary supporters making similar announcement between now and election day.

Like the Republicans of the 90s, I believe that the democratic left has badly underestimated the Clintons. They are not going to fold up their tent and disappear into the political wilderness. They are fighting back in a very calculated way. When this presidential election is over and Obama is consigned to his own personal scrapheap of history, I suspect that there will be a deadly reckoning within the democratic party as the Clintons move back into control and clean house. Their real enemies within the party have now revealed themselves. It won’t be pretty.

Hmmm. This is starting to sound like a rant. I’ll sign off at this point.

Wow! Good analysis.

She's as big a "gift" as we've had in years since Ronald Reagan.

She's "for real" and the left knows it. They can see their political death approaching and they are screaming their lungs out in an futile attempt to avoid it. They know they can't beat her and they are running a scorched-earth campaign in an all out gambit to destroy her.

I've been very laid back on getting caught up in the hyped-up "worship" of Governor Palin. I've been taking a "Let's see..." attitude. The GOP has been such a dismal failure as of late I just didn't want to deal with any more disappointment. You know what? I've been watching and listening to her...she's just amazing! There hasn't been a single attack she hasn't absolutely destroyed and discredited. It's like she's completely immune to the mouth-frothing attacks of the radical left.

I don't think they can touch her. Not at all, and at least not at their level of competence. She's every bit as good as we could hope.

And they know it. It's driving them insane.

Popcorn?

Google the phrase "Palin's pick is insulting to women," and you come up with 943,000 entries. Is this a plot or a stunning coincidence? Or possibly both?

Nope, just a dem talking point.

It's the same as "Did you know, McCain voted with Bush 100% of the time in 2008?". This one is distributed around by 20 somethings on the internet somewhere. Forget that Bush doesn't vote except with a Veto nor does he introduce legislation.

When you hear the same point driven home by disparate groups within a 48 hour period, you know it is sourced from the DNC and distributed through the various media channels. When clueless NYC street person is interviewed and repeats the DNC line word for word, the mission has been accomplished.

Thanks!

she was enraging the left and the press, assuming there still is a difference between them

There is. A few on the left are capable of honesty. You can't say that for presstitutes.

Let’s edit this statement, shall we?

[In this context, it seems now that the message of the 2006 midterms was widely misread. It was not a rejection of the entire conservative project, but of the scandals and misdeeds with which it was burdened:]

I think this is the money shot of a great article.

My first thought upon hearing of the Palin nomination was that it was brilliant, quite aside from the stand-alone positives she brings, in that her mere prescence knocks the feet out from under the Obama campaign.

1) She makes those who support him out of fear of being considered racist decide between being afraid of being racist and afraid of being sexist.

2) Her brief time as Governor grossly exceeds Obamas trivial time as Senator before he began his run...and she's the VICE-Presidential candidate...thus her mere prescence points out his inexperience by virtue of being an obvious attack.

This past weekend I attended the Oklahoma State Fair. The County Republican booth was crowded with visitors. Adjacent, was a booth for a labor organization, one that appeared to be in bed with the Dems. There were few, if anybody, lined up at their booth.
When I finally made it up to the front of the GOP booth I asked them if they had any Palin 2012 yard signs and bumper stickers. They said, no yet, but coming soon.

re: 4. Bombs Away. McCain picked Palin for a number of reasons--youth, pizzazz, energy, appeal to the base and to middle-class women, to the West and to blue-collar voters--but it may turn out that the main contribution she makes to his effort is in goading the Democrats into spasms of self-defeating and entirely lunatic rage. Somehow, every element of her life--the dual offense of being a beauty-queen and hunter; the Down syndrome baby who wasn't aborted; the teenage daughter about to get married, whose baby also wasn't aborted; the non-metrosexual husband working the nightshift; the very fact of five children--touched a nerve on the liberal template, and sent the whole beast into convulsions, opening an intriguing and somewhat frightening window onto the turbulent id of the left.)))

Someone should be pitching a book title--"When the Left Went Stark Raving Mad"--ides of August

I agree completely. The way I said it as most of the Kennedy clan and others jumped on the Obama bandwagon is that the old line Dims wsere try to take back control of their party from these Arkansas grifters who they allowed to take control of the party back in 1992.

I don’t view Obama as a hapless front man, but they went with him because he showed the ability to keep them from winning this nomination. As we know all the Dim nomination seekers had exactly the same views on almost everything.

Now the Clintons think they will take back over if Obama loses. They are hoping he does. But they are yesterday’s news. As is often the case the designated successor at coach is not necessarily the great coach of his mentor. H.Clinton does not inspire the broad public like B.Clinton. She does not lie and get away with it like him. They will harm the Dims for some more years, but their time is past.
