You are right about that. Name calling IS hate speech in Canada. Labeling someone, or better yet, labeling a GROUP "White Trash" is hurtful, hateful, derogatory, demeaning, ethnic intimidation, and it's against the law in Canada. Others have been prosecuted for using hate speech against ethnic groups in Canada.

Many, many, years ago the London Daily Mirror had various columnists. One was called "Cassandra". Real name William O'Connor, I believe. He wrote up on one fine American icon when he visited England. This was "Liberace". "Cassandra poured it on. Calling Liberace a momma's boy, a neuter sexed man with homosexual tendencies. Liberace sued. British justice prevailed. The Mirror paid $30,000 USD.
