At the time of McCain’s birth, the Canal Zone was sovereign US territory. If you committed a crime in the Canal Zone, under whose laws would you be tried? You would be tried under US law, in a US court.
Nope, Obama will not be the next in court as the Judge cleverly set a prescient today when he ruled “the plaintiff, Markham Robinson, chairman of the American Independent Party, had no standing to file the lawsuit because he is not a candidate for president”.
So unless McCain files against Obama, I read it that Obama can run as a non citizen.
WOW the law is just not right.
Nano times aka end times reductionism. Lottery Jackpot, stellar parallax and so on.

“Since The Canal Zone was part of the US at the time...McCain qualifies for the Presidency”
He was born less than 1 mile outside the canal zone, at colon hospital, rep. of panama, unfortunately. Coco Solo hospital wasn’t built for another 4 years.
true, but he wasn’t born in the CZ, but across the street, in Panama.
Thank you sir for beating back half the argument against investigating BHO for the same thing.
Can we put this to rest null and find out who Barry Soetoro is?
Tomorrow: Federal judge rules that that messianic drug experimenting dieties are natural born citizens.
“Now for a ruling on the Liberal Messiah.”
October?
“I always thought that a big reason for the “natural born citizen” requirement was to keep Alexander Hamilton out of the Presidency. He was a fan of strong central gov’t to the point of possibly being a monarchist.”
This is correct.
bump
It’s not my area of expertise, but a couple of points:
The SF Court seemes to have ruled on the main issue, and did not dismiss the case based on lack of standing. So, the ‘standing issue’ part of the decision would be appear to be dicta.
Not only is dicta not binding, but the SF court’s decision is not binding on the Philly court.
Of course, it may be that the judge’s dicta was correct, in which case lack of standing may be grounds to dismiss Berg’s suit if the legal reasoning is sound, and the applicable law specifies that only the opponent may file such a suit.
On Obama....Isn’t someone challenging his claim to citizenship? .....somewhere?.....if not, shouldn’t someone do so????.....somewhere?.....Sometime?
“All this was perhaps the silliest diversion of the campaign.”
At least on Free Republic it has been.
Didn't matter where he was born. He was grandfathered in by being a US citizen when the constitution was adopted
No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.
No it's a legal distinction. A court can only rule on matters brought before it. If he is ruling that a matter cannot be brought before the court, he cannot also give a definite ruling on the matter.
Occidental College? Who knew.
So this summer he was the Occidental Tourist?
I had the understanding that if a person is born outside of the US because one or more parent is serving in the military and assigned overseas, it is no different than being born on American soil.
The Panama Canal Zone, at the time McCain was born was considered to be a military base - making it American soil.
Personally, I find it ridiculous that this suit was even brought in the first place.
Thanks!
