Had to look up your profile page. I worked in Independence at the courthouse across the street from the Winnaduma Country Inn for 16 weeks one time, then another time for eight weeks. Both were murder cases. The Sheriffs had one murderer right on; the other one was an iffy case.
Rose Bird (rip) overturned both cases. What else was new in CA at the time.
BTW, not enough of a jury pool, so people were being taken from the street. I love that place.
Love chucker and crawdaddies because of the way the hotel cooked them or just because they taste great. The proprietress only had dinners on Saturday nights.
Both murders were in the Panamint Mountains. Do you know where that is? Never got up there. Heck, was too busy.
Cyber and I are going to be vacationing in Death Valley as soon as it cools off. There’s so much to see. We’ve gone sort of that way up to Lake Tahoe, and I’ve told him about Owens Lake and the political aspects — at least what I known from the locals. I knew a few very well. One had a home up a hill a little north of Independence. She never gave up her water rights, so she had a half inch pipe of fresh water coming into her home. The water was the best I’ve ever had.
This is the first time we’ve had a four-wheel drive. Never used the four-wheel drive in a little over three years. I suppose we’ll have to learn how to use it. LOL!

FWIW, I thought the White Mountains were the highest peak, but some bureaucrats had some dirt removed to make Mt. Whitney the highest peak. A little “dirt” from the town.
