SAN PABLO --
Amariae Sanders was a 16-year-old boy who may have thought a San Pablo gift shop would be an easy mark. But when he vaulted the counter while armed with a sawed-off shotgun, he had no way of knowing that the store owner would fight back, police say.
Brian Wogsland, the owner of A&L Posters on San Pablo Ave., had been robbed twice before and was ready when Sanders and another young man entered about 5 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said. He pulled a handgun and fired numerous shots, striking Sanders in the head and chest.
In an instant, Sanders was dead, and Wogsland was left trying to deal with the third - and most violent - incident over the past year in which he was targeted by robbers.
"He was pretty upset when we interviewed him," said police Sgt. Dave Lewellyn. "He obviously didn't want to have to shoot anybody. But he has been the victim of violent crime, and at some point he's going to have to take these kinds of measures to protect himself. He told us he was in fear for his life."
After Wogsland opened fire, the other would-be robber fled out the front door of the shop at 14650 San Pablo Ave. He remained at large today.
Sanders attended Delta Continuation High School in Richmond, officials said.
Police have contacted his mother, who lives in San Pablo. "She seemed to be a genuinely good person," Lewellyn said.
The most recent robbery at Wogsland's store happened two months ago. In one of the two earlier robberies, he was beaten and had a gun fired near his face, police said. Suspects have been arrested in at least one of the earlier cases.
Wogsland did not return a call today seeking comment.

NEXT?
Another violent felon put out of business. Best possible outcome.
San Pablo is not SF. San Pablo is a 90% black, 20% unemployed town in west Contra Costa County. To add a strange quirk to the situation, Contra Costa County has the highest median personal income of California counties, and third in the U.S.

Wogsland was just taking out the trash...Gee I just love happy endings....
I’m not sure if you’ve seen some 16 year olds but I remember my mom being concerned who I was talking to coming off the trolley one day in Philly because they looked so much older.
One of my elementary school friends was killed while engaged in a robbery attempt (with a pocket knife) and another (named Sanders too, oddly enough) got away.
Sad in one way but I’d pretty calmly smoke someone who threatened my pet, let alone pointed a weapon at me. Wouldn’t think much about it afterwards, at least not from a ‘trauma’ standpoint.
It is a sad that the guy must be removed from society to make innocent people safe, but that is the case. If the government would make a real effort to defend innocent citizens, people would not have to. Coddling criminals results in more of them being killed by their intended victims.
“He pulled a handgun and fired numerous shots, striking Sanders in the head and chest.”
Good training!
And the fourth win. Every worthless dickhead in San Pablo will think twice about committing another robbery at that place of business...and maybe others too.
A kind of win - win situation, huh?

I have carried for years, and have often said that I fully expect that my extensive training and practice would kick in and I would do whatever is necessary to stop a deadly threat.
OTOH, I have also said that, afterward, I fully expect that I would be traumatized at having been forced to inflict deadly harm on another person -- and I wonder if I could handle the remorse of having had to use my weapon on a young person.
But -- defense comes first; remorse comes later...
Don't put any money on it, that is San Francisco you know, the world's largest outdoor freak show.
Most of the moonbats out there probably believe the shop owner had it coming because he was making a profit off the stuff he sells to the poor residents of that area by actually charging them for his merchandise. He should have just handed the cash drawer over to the poor downtrodden little teenage hoodlum instead of using a horrid gun to stop the poor misunderstood youngster from killing him.
And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives - Proverbs 1:18
CRIME DOES NOT PAY! It’s in the book.
Irresponsible, flipant responses are worth refrencing ???
Why don’t you call Brian and ask him how he is sleeping?
No question about that, but one childish, ignorant postor here said "nice." That invidious attitude will lead him to a homicide conviction, should he ever be allowed to carry. There are some among us that should never be allowed near firearms.
I do not believe that any of the principals or incidentals of this death would concur with his assessment.
Why don't you ask Brian Wogsland if its a 'happy ending?'
Because of his actions Mr. Wogsland will be able to answer questions. Don’t know if that would be the case if he hadn’t pulled the trigger.AWB
