I know Sammy Hagar donated to the GOP before...not recently though. Sad to hear that the Van Halen brothers would again piss off a big portion of their fan base and get all upset with the use of Right Now. The song is played in stadiums, commercials, and everywhere else you can thin of but God forbid it is played in a venue for a Republican president.

Eddie Van Halen spends to much time staring at his guitar to follow politics. What does he care what music Republicans listen to?

Hagar’s pretty much a straight-up GOP’er, but he doesn’t make waves about it, hence the hush-hushness about it.

He went to the RNC in St. Paul, if I heard correctly.

I got news for the liberal musicians, if you write and produce a song and someone buys your CD, they can play that song ANYWHERE, ANYTIME they want to. So, Van Halen’s kiss off buggers!

I hope Hagar stays away from this nonsense. I like the guy and his music.

So typical of the Bozos like Van Halen, the Wilson sisters, Mellencamp, etc. First ones to scream censorship. At this point in time, these ‘80s relics should be thankful that anyone is listing.

Useless idiots.

I’m sure it was the dim-witted Eddie & Alex who named the album:

For
Unlawful
Carnal
Knowledge

Aside from what Eddie and Alex think of the Republican ticket, I have to think that Sarah Palin is both Sammy- and Diamond Dave-approved.

Isn’t Sarah Palin’s son Trig Van Palin? I got the impression she was doing a play on Val Halen’s name. If that is true, shame that they would react so strongly when she has paid them one of the highest compliments.

Right Now lyrics: (So, sue me Eddie!)

Dont wanna wait til tomorrow
Why put it off another day?
One more walk through problems,
Built up, and stand in our way ,ah
One step ahead, one step behind me
Now you gotta run to get even
Make future plans, dont dream about yesterday, hey
Cmon turn, turn this thing around
Right now, hey
Its your tomorrow
Right now,
Cmon,its everything
Right now,
Catch a magic moment, do it
Right here and now
It means everything
Miss the beat, you lose the rhythm,
And nothing falls into place, no
Only missed by a fraction,
Slipped a little off your pace, oh,
The more things you get, the more you want,
Just trade in one for the other,
Workin so hard, to make it easier, whoa,
Got to turn, cmon turn this thing around
Right now, hey
Its your tomorrow
Right now,
Cmon, its everything
Right now,
Catch that magic moment, do it
Right here and now
It means everything
Its enlightened me, right now
What are you waitin for
Oh, yeah, right now
(solo)
Right now, hey
Its your tomorrow
Right now,
Cmon, its everything
Right now,
Catch that magic moment, and do it right,
Right now
Right now, oh, right now
Its whats happening?
Right here and now
Right now
Its right now
Oh,
Tell me, what are you waiting for
Turn this thing around

This is all just BS. They have NO control over who plays their songs, all they have to do is cash the royalty check. McCain-Palin and the RNC have Public Performance Licenses, NO PERMISSION NEEDED or REQUESTED!

Republicans and Conservatives bought your damn records too, you know. Or would you prefer to give our money back?

Just shut up and sing, you pinheads.

Did Eddie van Halen really think that a guy who “can’t drive 55”
would be ticked when a Republican convention used a song he worked on?

Especially when Democrats’ response to bumps in oil price is
to threaten us with a return to Carter’s 55-mph speed limit?
Oh and to check our tire pressure. And to derail the “Drill Here,
Drill Now, Pay Less” outburst of sanity!?

Of course Sammy Hagar is a Republican. He is a hugely successful entrepreneur, and knows what it means to be in business and face all the crap government does to you.

If you've ever drank this tequilla, then you have experienced Mr. Hagar's business genius...

Question: When a song is released, does it not become part of the public domain? How may any singer, group, etc, protest or file a cease and desist order against the song being played in a public forum?

If I brought my collection of old Heart albums to a GOP rally... or a wedding for a Republican couple, or a beach party given by the local chapter of the Young Republicans, then I am libel to court action?

I am not writing about pirated music here. I am stating the fact that I PAID for that music... it is MY property, and I will play it where ever I damn well please. Why was that argument not made against these idiots?

These musicians making a political stand some what amuses me. Their outcries do create some publicty for them, though.

I think the younger people may listen to the newer music that is politically speaking to their generation. Just as we did.

But these 60’s, 70’s..80’s and even early 90’s muscians are grasping. Maybe they are trying to grab the young audience by “protesting”. And maybe they are genuine.

Eddie is a nut, a technical genius, and an alcoholic at the same time. It's not surprising he's a Democrat.

Just try reading through his guitar and amp tech pieces. If you're not an electric musician, it'll make your head spin.

As long as Sammy keeps putting out the good music and selling his Cabo Wabo Tequilla, his politics aren’t much of an issue. Anyone who votes for the man and not the party is my kind of friend.
