Great bluegrass festival that weekend in Golden Gate Park.
I live in the North Bay (Marin) and will go on Friday while they do their practice runs which is essentially the same show they do on the weekend, but without the big crowds.
And yeah, every year a handful of lefties whine and complain about the noise, the cost, the amount of fuel being used, but the few hundred thousand or so people that do show up support them and our military.
“Why does the U.S. Navy continue to grace this obnoxious, hostile city with its presence every year with Fleet Week?”
Because it’s still incredibly popular there believe it or not. You’d be surprised at the massive crowds it draws.
WTF?
Mo’ is in Hawaii. It was the Iowa that you’re thinking of.
From Wiki...
For several years plans had been under way to berth the Iowa in San Francisco, California, opening the battleship there as a museum; however, in 2005, San Franciscos city council, citing opposition to the Iraq War and the military’s policies regarding homosexuals, voted 8-3 against maintaining Iowa in the city, paving the way for other California communities to bid for the battleship. Vallejo, site of the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard and Stockton are competing for the vessel.
(Vallejo has since won and the Iowa will be coming to Mare Island. yeah!)
I didn’t realize they still did Fleet Week in San Francisco. I did a couple in the ‘80s coming up from Long Beach.
Thanks for the video link and thanks for the reminder, bluegrass and the Blue Angels on the same day. Life is good.
Because it annoys the crap out of the SF lefties. What better reason could they have?
Well, that’s a good point. :D
