Conservative icon Phyllis Schlafly believes GOP vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin has brought the most energy and enthusiasm to the Republican Party since Ronald Reagan. And polls among white women are indicating the Alaska governor has revitalized the GOP campaign among that demographic.
Eagle Forum founder Phyllis Schlafly says she personally knows delegates who went to the Republican National Convention (RNC) last week not planning to vote for John McCain -- but after hearing Sarah Palin's speech, were "standing up on chairs cheering for the McCain-Palin ticket."
"I think it is energy and excitement that we haven't had in years. It's funny; Sarah Palin's appeal is across the board. It's young, old, men, women. She's just authentic, she's for real, and she's just a total package," Schlafly contends. "[Palin] comes from a state that is, all of a sudden, very important to us. I think energy independence is the number-one issue of this campaign, and she's well aware that we are very eager to get all that goody American oil up there in Alaska."
Schlafly, who praises Palin for her pro-life stance, notes that the Alaska governor has five kids, so "she cares about the future of the country." Homosexual activists have been criticizing Governor Palin of late because she was honored at the RNC by Eagle Forum, and her church is promoting an upcoming "Love Won Out" conference organized by Focus on the Family.
Polls and the 'Palin factor' Meanwhile, poll numbers are confirming that Palin has revitalized John McCain's presidential campaign and greatly improved his once slim chance of winning the White House.
A new Washington Post-ABC News poll indicates there has been a 20-point swing among white women voters from Barack Obama to John McCain since he named Palin as his running mate. Before the Democratic National Convention, Obama held an eight-percentage point lead among white women voters (50-to-42 percent); but after the Republican convention, McCain was ahead by 12 points among white women (53-to-41 percent).
Allison Kasic IWFAllison Kasic, a senior fellow at the Independent Women's Forum, says the 20-point swing can be attributed to the Palin factor.
"I do think that's probably the critical factor -- just because, if nothing else, when McCain picked Palin as a running mate that really just changed the dynamics of the debate and of the race," she contends. "It energized the conservative base particularly -- and coming out of the conventions, the Republicans really had a lot of momentum. And correspondingly, we've seen a lot of polls shift in their favor," notes Kasic.
Kasic says Palin's message of reform seems to be resonating well with both male and female voters. The political analyst believes economy and energy will be the top issues for female voters in the weeks leading up to the November election.
I have been wondering about Schlafly, and why I hadn't seen any stories about her on the Palin pick. Well, finally we have one.
Well, they can criticize her all they want. Obama is the homosexuals candidate, value voters will gladly vote for Gov Palin, err I mean McCain!
I’m a middle aged man and I love Sarah. Why? She’s a normal small town person like me, lifetime NRA member, hunter, angler, conservative, what more could one ask for? No weird Bill Clinton or Ted Kennedy antics (committing crimes and geting away with it).

wow!
I guess I now belong the old Republicans. I remember the day while I was a Young American For Freedom (YAF)marching across the street from the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) in Chicago. Wonder if Ayers and Dorne were some of the ones on the other side of the street.
wow!
you were ahead of me.
i woke up when i read ayn rand’s “the new left”, a group of essays she wrote in the early 1960s, published about 1980.
and then ronald reagan and milton friedman set me further on the correct course.
I will have to read those essays. Cool. Love the story of how you ‘arrived’ :-)
