Guys - Color me skeptical that Obama actually did this. This is something that is beyond the imagination. It cannot be. This will turn out to be THE story of the decade and IF TRUE will surely lead to the immediate suspension of the Obama / Biden campaign.

So what other reason can you give for Obama’s Make-Me-Famous World Tour? He was up to no good and meddling where he should not have been.

I can fairly easily see Obama discussing troop withdrawal (as both Obama and the Iraqis have confirmed) and mentioning something like, "And you know, the current administration is quite weak -- and its decisions are regarded with suspicion in America. The best negotiations would occur with the next president. Those would be truly enforceable by that president."

If true, it's not the first time a democrat has gone to Iraq and attempted to undermine this administration.

Jim McDermott, David Bonior of Michigan and Mike Thompson all traveled to Iraq, on Saddams dime, in an attempt to undermine the administration. Those three should have been charged with treason and at least removed from office.

I don't know. He was in Iraq before the convention, on his seeming victory lap around the world, with his "presidential seal" in hand. This was at the time he was already acting like he was the president, including starting to form a transition team. I can see a self confident candidate, who is ahead in the polls, actually doing this.

A quote from Obama himself back in June. See the last sentence that sounds right in line with the article today.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/06/16/1146329.aspx

“My concern is that the Bush administration—in a weakened state politically—ends up trying to rush an agreement that in some ways might be binding to the next administration, whether it was my administration or Sen. McCain’s administration,” Obama said. “The foreign minister agreed that the next administration should not be bound by an agreement that’s currently made.”

“This is something that is beyond the imagination. “

How about a US Naval Reserve officer negotiating with the Viet Cong in Paris?

and who were the senators who visited Baghdad just prior to W pulling the pin? Wasn’t that Biden and Durban?

Remember Carter going to Korea to negotiate, and apparently Clinton was unaware until he got a [collect] call from Pyongyang?

This goes on all the time (D).

IF TRUE will surely lead to the immediate suspension of the Obama / Biden campaign.

But, they are 'rats. Barney Frank had a gay escort service operating at his residence; Ted Kennedy abandoned a woman to die in his car. Clinton...you name it, they did it.

They will brazen this out easily.

I don't think you've been on FR very long, else you'd know that this kind of stuff Democrats do all the time, and get a free pass from the press, and everybody else.

You evidently don't recall the Democrats who met with Saddam prior to the invasion -- Jim McDermott and David Bonior, both House members, who stood on Hussein's balcony with him and willingly propagandized for him.

Or how about Senator Rockefeller who, just prior to the Iraq invasion, travelled to Syria to meet with Bashar Assad? Rockefeller told Assad that Bush meant to invade Iraq and that he should warn Saddam of this so that he would be prepared.

As a group, Democrats have gotten into the annoying (and thoroughly dangerous) habit of conducting their own foreign policy -- most of it independent of and counter to the interests of the United States.

That Obama would attempt to actively undermine ongoing negotiations between the United States government and a foreign power is, unfortunately, consistent with Democrat party practice.

Isn’t this a matter for the sitting President to handle? And why isn’t the Attorney-General acting on this? It would not be a matter for McCain as he is just a candidate at this time???

This quote is what makes it believable for me:

"He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the US elections and the formation of a new administration in Washington," Zebari said in an interview.

Note the nuanced wordsmithing. Obama can claim he didn't seek a delay, he was just asking why they weren't prepared. As another FR poster said, this is nuanced enough to make even Bill Clinton roll his eyes. If a reporter were making it up, it'd be more direct, IMO.

I think the way he worded things gives him an escape hatch and denial for all the charges against him. He won't escape the American public if this plays out, though.
