At first I identified with Sarah Palin's jaunty style - open-toed slides in the office; handsome eye wear. "I want an Alaska crab centerpiece for my glass table!" As a carnivore, I've no problem with a woman hunting or lounging on bear skin. Also, I find the mooseburger jokes childish. Like a lot of New York foodies, I'm game for any dish I haven't tried. Like many a female voter, I'm attracted to a candidate I can "relate" to.
There's only one problem. What if she ... puts ketchup on that mooseburger?
Recently, at the Republican convention in St Paul, Palin did the political equivalent. I was struck by her abrasive manner - and the double standards that came into play. Were she from the left, she'd be labeled a feminazi. A lipsticked "pit bull"? This is the kind of talk that sends American men running off to Thailand, seeking a vacation from feminism. They're chasing a fantasy, as any professional exotic could tell you, but escapism becomes a necessity when women envision themselves as attack dogs in mixed company.
Let's dispel a few stereotypes. "Feminist" has become a brand, a superficial way of labeling the GOP's vice-presidential pick, who is currently being marketed like soap.
Populist feminism perceives women as some sort of "team," claiming to do something for women without bothering to analyse our situation - and never mind if it's an inconsistent, incomplete definition of "women."
Hockey feminism, as I see it, doesn't care about the complexity of female existence. Women's lives are shaped by many factors, such as income, education, race, citizenship status, the wealth or poverty of a nation, and how we earn a living. Hockey feminism ignores all that. "Sexist" becomes a convenient accusation because it's just a competing brand.

Traditional feminazi feminism makes itself known by playing the victim and then denying its femininity. That has absolutely nothing to do with the Sarah Palin variety of feminism.
“...sends American men running off to Thailand...”
I don’t think any of the men I know would run away from Sarah Palin.
Pleasant to see them stunned into stammering incoherence by a nice, capable, normal lady from Alaska, though.
Thailand is where men go to have sex with little children.
What in the world is this person smoking?
That's apt.
'Can't help but think she was up against a deadline and just wrote whatever popped into her head - and with what is obviously "in her head" - this is the rambling tripe that spilled out.
Utterly comical...
Don't forget that Greta has Todd Palin on tonight.
That should garner another whole new wave of converts.
"First Dude" is both a man's man (what man hasn't fantasized sometime in his life about living the life of the great outdoors = and being as successful at it as Todd Palin?) and a man lotsa women wish they'd found...a rugged man you know you can count on to protect you and your family - yet has no problems with cooking and cleaning and changing diapers. (I envision an onslaught of single women to Alaska.)
Then tomorrow and Weds nights, Hannity will have "Sarah" on.
These two are REAL people. They resonate with real people out here in the real world. It isn't something you can claim about yourself. It comes from their whole lives - and America loves it.

Absolutely -Ketshup and all-
I wouldn’t. But then again, I wouldn’t want to PO the First Dude. I like my bodily organs in their current positions, thank you very much.
I would this say this is more about how both these people
(The Palins) were raised....It shows Americans that no fault divorce has caused many problems for children being raised in a one parent home, in addition if that parent has to work and the child spends much time alone..(Idle hands are the devils’ workshop)
I grew up as a Baby Boomer where most of the mother’s were at home and with Father’s who were working...We were disciplined, spanked when necessary and lived around extended family members...(Grandparents, Aunts Uncles etc)
The Palins might represent the America of 30 40 yrs ago.
My father would of never changed diapers however he was a great Dad who served his country raised his kids and loved his wife very much (My mother).
If you can raise a family without divorce without the problems of Alcoholism, Drug Abuse or infidelity you can pretty much live anywhere in this country and be a succsess story..
As they say the Family that prays together, stay’s together...
Huh? I don't think Quan really knows what she's talking about. She has a gut reaction and she's trying to find words to express it, but she doesn't find them.
