To: Straight Vermonter

Famers as welfare queens .... Let me run that by my husband, the farmer. He will get a laugh out of it since we’re not in the farm program. Most of the neighbors aren’t, either.

Most people with no connection to farming see it through the media’s lense, that all farms are all alike, all across the country.

I live in dairy country where all the farmers are on welfare.

Alas, “most people” don’t have a clue as to the difference between “farming” and “agribiz”. Awhile back, I found a database listing all the farms in my county that recieved govt. subsidies. Not surprisingly, less than one percent received *anything* and those that did averaged less than $1000. Hardly worth the massive paperwork involved.

But not to fear, once NAIS and CODEX are shoved through, there won’t be any “farmers”.
