"Be careful what you wish, you might get it."

The following material will fit onto two sides of a single 8 by 11 sheet of paper.

Obama and McCain Fact Sheet

Contrary to various smears that have been circulating about Barack Obama, the reader can verify all these things independently, and is encouraged to do so. (This fact sheet is not authorized by any campaign.)

John McCain

o Decorated Navy veteran

o Refused to use his position as an admiral's son to gain early release from a brutal prison at the expense of prisoners who had been there longer.

o As Obama's campaign ad says, he can't use a computer or send E-mail. Obama omits the fact that this is because injuries that were inflicted on him in that prison camp prevent him from using a keyboard.

o Sarah Palin's executive experience as a state governor exceeds the executive experience of Senators Barack Obama and Joseph Biden put together. McCain's previous position as a Navy captain constitutes executive experience and responsibility far greater than that of a "community organizer."

Barack Obama

o "Dinner with Barack" fundraising E-mails may have constituted illegal lotteries in many jurisdictions. One announced a winner before the deadline for entries.

o Obama personally misused the United Church of Christ's tax exempt resources by giving a campaign-related speech, "A Politics of Conscience," after his campaign promised the church that no campaign related activity would occur at the 2007 Annual Synod in Hartford.

o Hillary Clinton's campaign alleges credibly that the Obama campaign practiced voter intimidation and other forms of misconduct during the Nevada caucuses.

o Barack Obama's Dreams From My Father promotes Black identity politics and Black Nationalism (pages 99-100 and 199-201 of the paperback version, and also see page xv).

o In April 2007, Barack Obama endorsed Al Sharpton and his National Action Network as follows. “Reverend Sharpton is a voice for the voiceless, and a voice for the dispossessed. What National Action Network has done is so important to change America, and it must be changed from the bottom up.” If you have access to the Internet, a Google search on Sharpton and "Freddy's Fashion Mart," "Yankel Rosenbaum," and "Tawana Brawley" will reveal Sharpton's long track record of inciting hatred of white people and especially Jews.

o Barack and Michelle Obama's church:

• Applauded Michael Pfleger's mockery of Hillary Clinton and his proclamation that "there were a whole lot of white people crying"

• Questioned Israel's legitimacy by writing "state" of Israel in an official church bulletin

• Published a blood libel that accused Israel of developing an "ethnic bomb" to kill Negroes and Arabs.

• Published a guest opinion piece from a member of the Hamas terrorist group

• Called upon God to damn America

• Blood libeled the United States by accusing it of inventing the AIDS virus

o The Obama campaign, contrary to the disclaimer on each page, exercises editorial control over my.barackobama.com and is therefore responsible for its content. This content has included hate speech against Jews and senior citizens (including jokes about Alzheimer's disease), references to "bitter" small town people who "cling to guns and religion" as "white trash," and even wishes that people like John McCain and the Clintons would die.

o Barack Obama solicited and accepted the endorsement of MoveOn.org, whose record includes:

• The hosting of anti-Semitic and anti-Catholic hate speech of the worst imaginable kind, including an assertion that Jews did something to deserve the Holocaust, on a Web site (the now-disgraced Action Forum) over which it exercised editorial control.

• Publication of a derogatory photomanipulation of Pope Benedict waving a gavel in front of the U.S. Supreme Court

• Publication of a defamatory insult to General David Petraeus

• Publication of an official bulletin that effectively blames Israel for the Middle East Conflict. It cited sources like the Electronic Intifada.

o Barack Obama's primary achievement in the Illinois State Legislature was to orchestrate the defeat of the state's version of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act, which would have made it illegal for abortionists to kill abortion survivors through denial of food, water, and medical care. Jill Stanek's Web site is an excellent source of information on this.

These lists are likely coming from soft voters (vote only in presidential elections or even less often). Be sure to do a little research first and have the numbers that they can call in their state (state republican HQ should do fine) to get absentee ballots in the event that they support McCain. I work the McCain Victory office 3 days a week and find that older voters really appreciate this extra help.

If they support Obama, tell them that their polling place hours have been extended to 10pm (kidding)

The Boston Globe has a nice piece about McCain's stint as commanding officer of the Navy's largest squadron:
It was a fleeting moment, but pure McCain - loyal, combative, disdainful of protocol. And it serves as a window into his first major experiment in leadership, a 27-month stint, from 1975 to 1977, as the second in command and then commanding officer of the Navy's largest air squadron. It was here, at Cecil Field in Jacksonville, that he tested his capacity to inspire, and to build a constructive Navy career after nearly 5 1/2 years of captivity in North Vietnam.

McCain led less by dry competence than by his outsize personality and the force of his reputation. Charismatic and combustible, McCain had a leadership style that was relatively unorthodox for the Navy, but he had never been one to stay within the lines. And while he initially hoped to rise through the Navy ranks, McCain, the son and grandson of admirals, was passed over for a higher command for reasons that remain unclear. His skills would lead him down another path.

Elements of the John McCain voters know today were evident during his command of the unit, a shore-based squadron known as VA-174 that trained pilots and maintained roughly 50 A-7 Corsair II attack jets. He answered to his own code of morality and justice. He showed empathy for people's hardships and personal failings. He was warm toward Navy men and women on his good side, and could explode at those who weren't.
