Quest for disapproval

At last count, the U.S. Census Bureau says Alaska had 670,053 residents and lots of elbow room. For every 10 square miles of Alaska, there are just 11 Alaskans; by comparison, Connecticut has 7,029 Nutmeggers per 10 square miles.

Breaking down the Census data, we find Alaska has 181,584 children, leaving 488,469 people 18 or older — adults — who are qualified to vote and answer pollsters' questions.

Speaking of polls, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been deemed the most popular governor in America. For a time immediately after she took office in 2006, her approval rating was above 90. In July, the Hays Research Center set her number at 80, and throughout her tenure, her rating has never fallen below 65 in any survey. On Wednesday, Rasmussen Reports said its most recent poll found 72 percent of Alaskan adults view her favorably, including a staggering 56 percent who view her very favorably.

On the flip side, 14 percent of Alaskan adults say they don't like her, though we'd bet very few, if any, are returning the $1,200 tax rebates they got last month thanks to Gov. Palin's conservative fiscal stewardship.

But we digress. Based on the Census data, then, 68,386 Alaskan adults disapprove of Sarah Palin.

And before this presidential campaign season is over, the mainstream news media are bound and determined to quote every single one.

True, they've already started that.

I think they only have about 10000 more to interview.

And every time they do, another Walmart shopper in Dayton, Lansing, Harrisburg, Annandale and Joplin breaks for Palin.

You'd probably be safe wagering that of those 14%, 75-80% of them are whiney liberals. They love to whine about tax relief to their own types, but they'll begrudging and gladly accept the money.
