John Batchelor: The Obama-Biden campaign is in meltdown

McCain's Right ArmBy John Batchelor. posted on September 12, 2008 at 10:05 PM

September 1968

After a year of starving and abusing 32 year old John McCain, no medical attention, abandonment and isolation in a windowless cell at the North Vietnamese Potemkin Village of a prison called the Plantation, the sadistic boss of the camp, Major Bai, called "Cat" by the POWs, ordered that the torturers break the admiral's son and force him to sign a confession. It was September, 1968. John McCain's father, John S. McCain, had become admiral of the Pacific Fleet the summer before, and the son's refusal to accept early release, and give the enemy a propoganda item, had angered Hanoi. Now John McCain the son was to pay for his resistance. The torturers started by rebreaking his left arm. Then he was trussed in ropes and beaten every two or three hours. According to the definitive Naval Institute Press volume on the POWS, "Honor Bound: American Prisoners of War in Southeast Asia, 1961-1973," this sadism continued for four days. He resisted and weakened. Finally he signed the confession. Forty years later, this act of courage and then retreat still bothers John McCain, and he mentioned it movingly in his acceptance speech to the Republican Convention on September 4. What also stays with John McCain is the damage to his arms. When he was released in 1973, (left, returning to US care) his right arm was two inches shorter than his left. He cannot lift his arms above his breast. He cannot comb his own hair. And he is not dexterous enough to type at a keyboard.

The Obama-Biden Campaign is in Meltdown

This meltdown explains how it is possible for the Obama-Biden campaign to issue, on the eve of Hurrican Ike that will dominate the news for twenty-four hours, the most cynical and stupid of webads that attacks John McCain for not being in the economy enough to use the internet. The webad is the worst of postures-- it is snide:

"1982, John McCain goes to Washington," an announcer says over chirpy elevator music. "Things have changed in the last 26 years, but McCain hasn't. He admits he still doesn't know how to use a computer...

Meltdown

Perhaps the webad writers were unaware of John McCain's disability (left, at the Plantation before the torture, 1968). Perhaps they skipped the detail that John McCain depends upon Cindy McCain to type his e-mail messages. Perhaps it just does not make sense, to a campaign headed by the fresh-faced forty-something David Plouffe, that there are men walking around who have been tortured and permanently disabled by the enemy. Perhaps, as I have been told by my best Democratic Party source, the Obama-Biden campaign is in meltdown, there is no single message, there is no unity, there is no vision, and so separate but equal parts with lots of cash but not much learning are just wandering off the trail. My professionals, Fund, Ververs, Charen, Avlon, Johnson, West, Crowley, McTague, Levine and Whalen will address the strange disintegration of the Obama-Biden campaign on Sunday 14. The question will be, Was 9-11-08 the day (right, the two candidates at Columbia University on Thursday 11) that the Democratic Party panicked that Obama-Biden was not working for either winning the White House nor for holding the Congress?

“Add Tammy Bruce to that list. Her show is very good and I find myself listening more and more often.”

I have been listening to Tammy Bruce since the early or mid 90s when she was head of her NOW group in LA. It was interesting listening to her and only got better as she became more conservative. Good Stuff there.

"Obama press sec. accuses McCain of 'sleaziest, least honorable campaign in history'..."

And then they run an insensitive ad attacking McCain's "computer illiteracy" ... how stupid can you get?

Here is some info Doug From Upland compiled into a Youtube Video from various sources inculding interviews with Mccain that may help you.

Any question that they had to give a REAL answer to not their pat given one would be a major artery cut. Truth to a liberal is like matter and anit-matter they destroy each other. I have asked every one who tells me they will vote for Obama and as them why. The only thing people can tell me is he stands for change. Ok. But in fair elections steps from being the most powerful leader in the World we know little or nothing of him. He never has to accout for anything. Talk about secretive administrations. NO-one could get away with this type of deception. Bush is prosecuting a war so no he cant give you all the info you want. He might as well give it to al jazeera. But I couldn’t tell you hardly anything about any abilties or reasons for him to lead.

“It is good that McCain’s camp has a rebuttal.
However, I doubt the truth of this rebuttal.
You can type on a computer without raising your arms above your head. You can operate a computer even without being able to tie your shoes.
My wife’s cousin had Lou Gehrig’s disease and was able to operate a computer.”

If he is lying, why would he have lied about it in May of 2000?

In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate’s savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. “She’s a whiz on the keyboard, and I’m so laborious,” McCain admits.

the smart ones seem to total 2 or 3.

The level of raw, ignorant hatred there is quite sad. What a cesspool unmoderated internet is.

Great work Mad Dawgg.

And let’s go exponential.

Since many people are busy on the weekend, including Freepers, we need to produce a few new posts here starting EARLY Monday morning requesting that all of us get to a telephone to call ALL of the shows we can, including local and national TV news producers about this ad slam against a war hero.

This is from the same article in 2000:

McCain himself was convinced early on that the Internet had to play a critical role in the campaign. Time and again it allowed him to leverage his money and his organization. “In the Virginia primary,” McCain told me, “we needed a lot of petitions signed to get on the ballot. We had the form available to download off the Internet and got 17,000 signatures with very little trouble.”

He was way ahead of any of them - Howard Dean, DUmmies etc. Maybe if Obama was in the Senate more, he’d know that McCain is the Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee. :)

Yes, I hate going there but sometimes it’s useful. They’re running scared and waiting for the fallout. Did you watch the CNN hit-piece about it? They’re going to have egg on their face as well. Some of Rove’s people are helping with McCain’s campaign. They’re doing a great job!

The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type.

One form of torture is breaking the bones in the fingers, or the knuckles of the hands. That would make it very painful to type or even write.

Do you remember a few weeks ago one of the sicko’s at dkos wrote an article about his bad teeth. McCain had them knocked out as a POW. Lysol’s a good idea.

I never suggested he was lying.
And I don’t know what he said in 2000.
Whatever explanation he gives, I accept it.

As chasel19 posted in post 107 in the link he sent you, in the year 2000 in that Forbes article they covered this.

“In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate.
