CHICAGO (Reuters) - Presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign on Saturday seized on comments from former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan, who questioned the affordability of broad new tax cuts.
Greenspan told Bloomberg News he was "not in favor of financing tax cuts with borrowed money" when asked if the United States could afford big tax cuts such as those proposed by Republican John McCain.

“questioned the affordability of broad new tax cuts.”

Obama has been touting his tax cuts for the middle class for months now. A recent reporter grilled the McCain campaign for “falsely” claiming Obama was going to raise taxes because Obama’s plan also calls for tax cuts.

Obama, like every Democrat since at least Clinton, will say and spin anything.

Are there any here so naive as to think there was no political calculation to Greenspan’s comments? He and his Lefty wife are a hit squad.

Actually i read somewhere that greenspan would be supporting mccain. The article conveniently doesn’t mention this point. I would like to see the context of this quote.

Andrea Mitchel’s husband endorsed your candidates preferences that he obviously prefers... Nice going.

Now you know that they’re really getting desperate.

Obama also said recently that as long as the economy is weak he would not rescind the Bush tax cuts.

Why doesn’t the Media ask about that position in light of Greenspan?

Oh wait, the Media is in the tank for Obama. Thats why.

He said the tax cuts cannot be afforded without spending cute.... and he’s right.

Tax cuts can increase revenue to the government. Looking only at tax rates ignores this fact.

If he said we can't handle revenue cuts without spending cuts, he would be correct.

The problem isn't that the tax rate is too low. It is a lack of restraint on the spending side.

Thanks for the brilliant insight, Mr. Greenspan. Guess what you and your libtard wife don't seem to get? We want to CUT SPENDING!

That's right. See, that's how fiscally responsible people pay for things. They cut out the garbage they can't afford, they stop buying things to impress other people and they use their money for the important things. It's really a no-brainer. But I guess that may be stretching it, since the no-brain crowd doesn't seem to understand.

Go scurry back to your little mole hole Greenspan.

LOL! Exactly! And that’s exactly what has all these lib’s knickers in knots. When the gubment money stops flowing to these “social programs”, where the heck are all the community activists and organizers going to find money to skim? Hmmmm.. that was a “code paragraph” for racism. My bad.

When Barry was pooping his diapers, JFK reduced rates and the treasury took in more money. When Barry was smoking dope as a teenager, Ronaldus Magnus cut tax rates and the treasury took in more money. W gave us a modest stimulation, the treasury took in more money. In all three cases, the Congress outspent the income. It is not “zero sum game”.

How about this, just freeze it at 2008 levels for 2 years. Dems will call it a cut if there is no increase but simply holding it flat allows a growing economy to get into the black.

It would also restore some faith in the US as an investment center.

Greenspam must be a liberal Democrat.

He created a recession single-handledly by strangling the economy at the end of Bush I’s reign -assuring a Clinton victory.

Sorry if this has been mentioned, but Greenspan CLEARLY said that he did not agree with the McCain tax cuts, UNLESS THERE WAS A CUT IN GOVERNMENT SPENDING!!!!!!!

Once again, the driveby media only heard the part of the statement that they wanted to hear. Of course, this dove-tails perfectly with McCain's plan to target reductions in earmarks, but the MSM couldn't dare let you know that!!!!

Oh also, don't I remember the media trying to play up that Obama's tax cuts were actually LARGER than McCain's?
