""[O]nly men narcissistic enough to see themselves as gods could dream of such nonsense," he said. "I'm confident that people who truly believe they can create heaven on earth will harm people who impede their designs." "

Alinsky and Gramsci should figure prominently in this movement. This cancer must be dragged out into the light and removed.

Thoughtful author and no hesitancy on naming his target. Look at this title he has also written: Intellectual Morons: How Ideology Makes Smart People Fall for Stupid Ideas by Daniel J. Flynn

The other is about the Left hating America. I am going to check these books out.

"I'm confident that people who truly believe they can create heaven on earth will harm people who impede their designs."

The American left wing media zealots come to mind with their destructive vitriol.

this delightful tutorial finds historically challenged hippies thinking they learned free sex and free living from Marx. In fact the American Left is rooted in American religious tradition and its unattainable do-gooder fantasies.

I'm not sure how correct the above assertion is, but wonder if to any degree this might explain Jimmy Carter?

This sounds like an absolutely fascinating book.

I wonder if the author deals with where Emerson, Thoreau, and Walt Whitman fit on the political spectrum? Was the authoress of The Battle Hymn of the Republic a "leftist?"

I hope he didn't label John Brown a lefty, though I suppose he probably did. If a time machine is ever invented, I suggest that John Brown and his band be snatched up from Harpers Ferry and dropped smack in the middle of modern day San Francisco. Then we'd see how "left wing" they were.

The article also makes the point that utopians have every right in the world to form experimental communities where they may voluntary engage in social experimentation to their hearts’ content. Unfortunately, there are no Brook Farms or New Harmony’s today—only people who insist on imposing this experimentation by force on the entire national population.

We have been plagued with left wing utopianism since the Pilgrims of Plymouth colony. There were too many attempts.

No discourse on the Left could be complete without watching Evan Sayet's talk at the Heritage Foundation:

HERITAGE FOUNDATION: "How Modern Liberals Think"

It's a bit long but worth every minute.

Flynn properly recalls that a liberal President Truman committed us to Vietnam, a moderate liberal, President Eisenhower maintained the war, a liberal President Kennedy prolonged it, and a liberal President Johnson escalated it. Inheriting a war from four presidents, President Nixon was tarred as a warmonger.

Not a good sign, when he does that.

Eisenhower was as conservative a President as the country wanted back then.
