The movie camera my folks had when I was a kid you had to keep the button pressed while filming.

Another factor I forgot to mention: while many Super 8 cameras (perhaps all) were battery powered, a lot of 8mm cameras were clockwork-powered and needed periodic winding (I think every 30 seconds or so, though I'm sure they varied).

Your post reminded me- I’m fairly certain the folks’ camera was a Super 8.
