RICHMOND, Va. - There will be a televised debate between Virginia's rival Senate candidates, Mark Warner and Jim Gilmore.
But the debate's timing at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, means its audience will consist largely of hardcore political junkies.
The debate will be broadcast from WSLS-TV in Roanoke and will be offered for live broadcast to any Virginia television station that wishes to air it.
Warner had been under fire from Gilmore and the press for not consenting to a televised debate.
The two debated for the first time in July at the Homested Resort and will clash again Thursday before a Fairfax Chamber of Commerce luncheon. Neither was to be televised.
The debate's moderator and members of the media panel have not been selected.

I’m pulling for you, but we have a major battle here in our state to re-elect Rossi who won last time, but was literally cheated out of the office.
Thanks. I hear Rossi is doing well in this rematch. I remember being focused on the race as King county kept finding new votes which help push the Dem over. We are going to go to the wire fighting for Gilmore. McCain should have Palin cut some commercials for the Senate candidates. I think it’d make a difference in some of the races. President Bush was much better at boosting other candidates when he came to town. McCain still doesn’t do that well. He should be making sure that Senate and House candidates get some stage time or at least referenced. It costs him nothing to share the spotlight and in this election the coat tails could be huge if McCain and the GOP leverage their increasing advantage.
If McCain & Palin really want to change Washington D.C., they are NOT going to succeed with a Pelossi-Reid Congress opposing everything.. All they'll be are "veto-ers". The Congress has to be changed as well for real reform to happen. I admit that I was more a Bob Marshall for Senate than Jim Gilmore, but Jim Gilmore is lightyears better than horseface Mark Warner.
Libturd Dem Jim Webb turned out immediately to NOT be a "centrist" as he campaigned (conservative democrat) but a flaming left-wing libturd with Reid and the rest.
I think that regardless of McCain-Palin help, he should hammer home drilling and new refineries. Ike has shoved gas up to $5.00 per gallon and it's all because of refineries all located in hurricane territory. There need to be refineries in more states than the gulf area of Texas and Louisiana.
Jim Gilmore should hammer away at that. It's a winning issue alone.
