LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Kentucky's governor has signed an order declaring a state of emergency and invoking the state's anti-price gouging law as Hurricane Ike bears down on the Texas coast.
Gov. Steve Beshear signed the order on Friday, saying gas stations started raising fuel prices overnight before the storm made landfall.
Beshear signed the order at the request of Attorney General Jack Conway, who said in a letter released Friday that invoking the law now will help prevent predatory pricing.

Live from Kentucky. Govenor Beshears did a great job of political grandstanding last week in anticipation of the chaos threatetened by Hurricanre Ike. But all of his wind was no match for the devestation Ike brought to the Ohio Valley last Sunday. With 90% of the homes here without electricity at some point and hundreds of thousands still without as of today, Tuesday, we are actually driving miles and miles and queing for blocks at any gas station with power to its pumps. Price gougeing is not an issue at this point, its PLEASE SELL ME YOUR GASOLINE! What are you doing about ELECTRICITY BESHEAR?
