The Alaska predator cull is necessary to preserve the wildlife populations — of both predator and prey. Past culls (in northern Canada, as well as Alaska) have resulted in dramatically increased prey populations — and, in turn, larger predator populations.
If the “Defenders of Wildlife”, the wildlife would face declining numbers — possibly wiping out certain prey populations. The predators would then face slow death by starvation. With “defenders” like those, the wildlife doesn't need enemies.
“If the Defenders of Wildlife, the ....”
That should be: “If the “Defenders of Wildlife” had their way, the ....”
Witness the disaster that is game "management" by "natural regulation" in Yellowstone National Park.
