Democratic Leadership Appeasing the Islamic Republic of Iran

Killing CA Assembly resolution ACR-79, a Warm-up for an Obama-Biden Policy?

On September 1st 2008, a brief text message from California Assemblyman Joel Anderson (Republican- 77th District in the San Diego area) announced that the “Democrat Senate leadership killed ACR-79 today by not transmitting it to the Assembly”.

Assembly Concurrent Resolution 79 was pushing for the divestment of over two billion dollars of the University of California pension funds, from companies doing business with the Islamic Republic of Iran. This resolution was following on the heels of the successful AB-221, divesting billions of dollars of California pension funds from above companies which had been introduced by Joel Anderson, supported by Iranian democratic opponents of the Islamic Republic in particular the MPG Party, and had passed both the California Assembly and the Senate with bi- partisan cooperation. The only large entity not clearly covered by the bill was the UC system, which was the target of the new resolution.

Congressional sources in D.C. have confirmed that “all Iran related resolutions are being left to die”, meaning that they would be opposed by Democratic leaders in the House and the senate. Currently two similar resolutions encouraging harsher sanctions on the Islamic Republic in the House (HCR 362) with about 265 co-sponsors and in the US Senate (Resolution 580) with around 50 co-sponsors have not been cosponsored by Democratic Foreign Relations Committee Chairs, Senator Joseph Biden ( Obama’s foreign policy advisor and now his Vice Presidential nominee) and Congressman Howard Berman, even though several Democrats opposed to their soft policies on Iran and their appeasement of the Islamic Republic have already signed on. It is expected that these two resolutions will meet the fate of the CA ACR-79 in a pattern of Democratic reversion of policy, even before the November elections. It is also feared that the future Obama administration, should he win the elections, will continue Senator Biden’s traditional doctrine of one sided concessions to the Islamic Republic without expecting reciprocation, which is tantamount to entrusting this dangerous dictatorship with regional and global ambition and on the verge of going nuclear, with more leeway, funds and power.

Is it an over simplification to say that the California taxpayers are being forced to fund a state sponsored multi-billion dollar investment progam into the Islamic Republic of IRAN?.......... And that California Democrat leaders reject any attempts to stop funding our enemy.

In order to decide if that is an oversimplication a closer study of the resolution is needed.

The fact however remain that there is multibillion inventment program with the Islamic Republic.
