Hubris was indeed revealed in the ABC interview with Sarah Palin, and it wasn't coming from Sarah Palin, but Charlie Gibson. But there was more than Charlie's sneering condescending tone, looking down over the rim of his glasses like some snobby intellectual that bothered me. Twisting her words into a fabrication feeding the fear of theocracy was utterly insulting. It was especially insulting to claim that these were her "exact words" after being challenged on it. Watch this video excerpt from the interview to see the exchange.
Here is the transcript of the exchange:
GIBSON: You said recently, in your old church, Our national leaders are sending U.S. soldiers on a task that is from God. Are we fighting a holy war?
PALIN: You know, I dont know if that was my exact quote.
GIBSON: Exact words.
PALIN: But the reference there is a repeat of Abraham Lincolns words when he said first, he suggested never presume to know what Gods will is, and I would never presume to know Gods will or to speak Gods words.
But what Abraham Lincoln had said, and thats a repeat in my comments, was let us not pray that God is on our side in a war or any other time, but let us pray that we are on Gods side.
Thats what that comment was all about, Charlie.
GIBSON: I take your point about Lincolns words, but you went on and said, There is a plan and it is Gods plan.
Actually, Charlie, that is totally untrue. Here is what she actually said:
Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God, she exhorted the congregants. Thats what we have to make sure that were praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is Gods plan.
Here is a tip for the future Charlie. Try not to rely on the AP for your "exact quotes". It makes you look like a total fool, especially after condescendingly insisting you are correct.
Please ping me if you find it. I’d love to write to him.
OK - I’ve been looking but so far no luck.
..
One thing about the internet, this crap the media has been feeding us for years can be brought to light before we never would have known what the genuine quote was.
I love that she made her points. She punctuated those points with the use of his name - Charlie. Now, suddenly, his fellow commentators and hosts are referring to him as Charles. I also loved how her body almost never moved. There was a little rotation of the ankle on occasion, a hand gesture, but that woman was as calm and relaxed and in control of the situation as it is possible to be. Thank you, also, for referring to her as Gov. Palin. I don’t like it that we’re calling her Sarah. Nobody called President Reagan Ron.
She had to invalidate the charge that she’s inaccessible to the media.
And there’s not a real woman who could miss it. I think she gave him a few warning looks but he was just like those idiots your sister was talking about and it didn’t faze him.
I do not expect that it would be made public. Imagine all the email he would get. LOL. Still, I’d love to tell him a thing or two. I’d be nice. I think.
No kidding. That’s why he immediately became Charles to his cohorts.
Back when I was in college, I recall that a lot of good folks in Texas would refer to President Reagan as Ronnie. No offense was meant. They just felt endeared to the man.
Thank you for posting that. I only saw Brit’s clips and missed that bit. What did Charlie say to that?
As I told my children, there are a##holes in this world, learn to deal with them.
We used to do all our business at a NAPA store for over 20 yrs, average 1K a month and then they changed hands. I went in one day and the owner treated me much the same way Gibson treated Sarah with a curled lip and a condescending manner and I left without buying anything.
I didn’t run home and whine to my husband but I was furious and when a few weeks later my husband remarked about how rude the man was I told him my story and we changed parts stores.
Palin spoke like a great leader. Real Conservative, havn’t had leadership like this since Ronald Reagan.
Alaska has preserved her and kept her isolated from the spineless PC mentality down here.
UUUURRRRAAAAAHHHHH
Gidbson talked down to her like a sexist pig. This will be anayzed for the next few weeks and he will continue to give the lamestream media a blackeye.
President Reagan endeared himself to these people. I can see them calling him Ronnie amongst themselves. But this is a public forum, and while they might not be engaging with us, we are certainly being monitored by them. That’s why I refer to her as Palin or Gov. Palin.
She was on him from the get go, leaning forward while it seems he was trying to back up. Poor Charlie didn't seem at all comfortable with being thrown in the pit with Sarah.
Gibson is getting the crap beat out of him on the ABC web site. Go see for yourself. Leave your comment, pro or con, if you like.

One can wish! My wife and I watched the interview and were astonished, yet not surprised at the way the interview was done. I watched my wife and saw the look only a woman could have when seeing another woman talked down to the way “Charlie” did, and the way the interview was edited.
