You know, I was going to call it a night. And then I saw the story about John McCains appearance at the 9/11 Columbia University forum earlier this evening.
Every time you grit your teeth and defend this guy, he pulls something like this. Hey, Maverick: Way to throw Sarah Palin, Rudy Giuliani, and your strategists who had the sense to seize on Obamas abysmal, ineffectual record as a Chicago rabble-rouser under the bus!
Criiiiiikey:
Barack Obama and John McCain attempted to set their differences aside Thursday night, if only for a moment, as they encouraged Americans to volunteer in their community and military at a forum on national service.
Few sparks flew at the Columbia University event, hosted by ServiceNation. The candidates who were interviewed separately were encouraged to keep campaign politics to a minimum, out of respect for victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.
In that spirit, McCain at one point softened the language used by his running mate last week at the Republican National Convention, where she mocked Obamas early days as a community organizer.
Governor Palin was responding to the criticism of her inexperience, her job as a mayor in a small town, McCain explained. Of course I respect community organizers. Of course I respect people whove served their communities, and Senator Obamas record there is outstanding.
Outstanding?
Are you kidding me? Does McCain need talking points on the government-subsidized fraud machine that is ACORN? Here are the ACORN Watch archives: Print and read.
Does McCain even know about the Annenberg Challenge disaster? Someone set up a briefing for him with Stanley Kurtz, stat! Is he even aware of Obamas own disavowal of his failed community organizer efforts?
McCain has just taken one of his own campaigns most effective lines of attack against his opponents feckless, far Left past and tossed it away like the rose Obama flung in the water.
Whats next? Will McCain attack those who mock Obamas outstanding community organizer record as racist, too?
Banging. Head. Against. Wall.

Hey, lets put some salt in the wound: A cabinet position for Obama to boot!
Maybe hell be named Secretary of the Soros Slush Fund.
“Man-made Global Warming is the biggest hoax in modern history.”
Very likely. Its also the most ignored, as there is FAR more lip-service paid to it than any actual policies. Its one of those things that everyone has to pretend to acknowledge in public but ignore in public - or do anything about. The Euros certainly don’t really give a rats a**, and neither do the Democrats.
Its not yet time to make public fun of it. Wait a couple of years, after its clear things are in fact getting colder, and the whole mass of hot air will deflate. Its already happening in Europe and Asia.
Curious view. I don’t recall — for instance — Mr Reagan exhibiting that behaviour.
McCain should just leave the place off his list ~ nothing whatsoever to be gained there.
” It is about whether or not America elects an extremist socialist and a radically pro-abortion, pro-infanticide, pro-invalid-murder atrocity-candidate as U.S. President.”
Well Duh. The point is how to beat Obama. That will take judgement and strategy. It will take mud-flinging, done the right way.
“Playing up to his precious moderates and independents”
A HUGELY over-rated voting bloc....if it even is one....
I don't know about that. I think one good way to annoy Obama is to praise him for being a "community organizer".
Most people have no idea what a community organizer is or does, and it certainly doesn't give one much experience in government. Keep the praise coming we want the world to think of him as "community organizer Obama". That sounds a lot lower on the totem pole than "Senator Obama".
When you go anywhere in this modern world you get the media of all kinds, who will kindly repeat your words, or some of them (and don’t give them the wrong ones !), out to where the voters you want are.
So you want to get that media time and use well-judged words. Even if you must go to Columbia and say nice things about Obama.
Exactly.
And they are not laying a glove on him.
Sorry, but the only reason to “organize a community” is to squeeze something for free from the people who work.
“A HUGELY over-rated voting bloc....if it even is one....”
Its not a bloc and we can’t win without all the Republican moderates, a largeish majority of independents, plus a fair number of Democrats. Thems the facts.
Glad you agree, then. ;-`
You know that and I know that.
The nice old lady in suburban Ohio, maybe not. Maybe she is thinking Obama is some sort of souped up church-lady. You have to deal gently with her.
Still, Columbia is not physically safe. McCain should stay away from places like that. Bet the Secret Service detachment guarding him went nuts.
I heard Brit and the gang say that McCain said that the whole thing about community organizer was in response to the Dems deriding Sarah because of her experience as mayor....if that was the case (didn’t see it) than I have no problem with McCain saying this...besides...he was in a position of being in hostile territory on 9/11...
Remmember..Obama’s first response about Palin’s nomination was to ignore her position as governor and make fun of her small town mayor creds...hence the response on community organizing
Bingo!
And besides, it is a perfect strategy after all the disgusting behavior of the 0bama crowd of the last 3 wks, it puts the onus on them.
I want McCain to win the WH, not a poop-flinging contest.
Obama has to go negative. He will try to draw McCain down into the mud with him, and as soon as McCain says anything that is less then polite, the media will spew BS about McCain losing his temper, etc...
Let Obama act like a clown. It doesn’t look Presidential or dignified.
He can win the insult contest, I’ll settle for McCain/Palin in the WH
For Crissakes, it’s the anniversary of 9-11. It wasn’t necessary to be a political animal on this day. Michelle’s problem is she makes mountains out of molehills. If she had bothered to note the entire McCain answer she’d know that he went on to say being a mayor is probably the toughest job there is in politics. So he did defend his VP. Malkin is just over-reacting...which is something she’s known for doing.
I’m no huge fan of McCain’s but let’s not sweat the small sh!t.
I sense that you have a great grasp of how the “game” is played.
McCain has been in politics a long time, he knows the drill. Far better than Barry does. (Who’d of thought it).
If he had started striking out blindly, like Barry has been, it would have been idiotic and lost votes.
He kept his cool..looked magnanimous and will let others do the dirty work...and perhaps let Barry crater himself. He is certainly capable of that.
